Description of WorkThis position is responsible for the detailed engineering review of moderately complex/advanced engineering plans and specifications, associated with sewer extension permits, wastewater plant staff reports and reviews of authorizations to construct, soils scientist reports, and agronomist reports that are submitted as part of application packages for non-discharge permits.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide a detailed engineering review based on applicable rules and standards for wastewater collection and NPDES and non-discharge treatment system applications including new applications and renewals.

Review and process fast track sewer applications and associated activities (i.e. municipal flow tracking, process/review of Engineering Certifications).

Provide technical support on groundwater contamination issues which include the presence of emergent compounds in groundwater.

Review general reports or Comprehensive Site Assessment (CSA) and Corrective Action Plans (CAP) for groundwater-contaminated sites within established deadlines.

Recruitment Range: $61,545.00 – $67,699.00

The Division of Water Resources (DWR) is responsible for protecting North Carolina’s drinking, surface and ground water for all waterbodies including lakes, streams, rivers, wetlands, and aquifers. This environmental stewardship is accomplished through actions including issuing permits, investigations, regulatory compliance and enforcement, monitoring and field assessments, certifications, laboratory analysis and testing, planning, water quality standards management, educational outreach, and other efforts. The Division comprises five Sections: Water Quality Regional Operations; Water Sciences; Public Water Supply; Water Quality Permitting and Water Planning. This position currently qualifies for a hybrid telework option with routine office and remote workdays. Minimum Education and Experience
