The Role
Operating from within North Region, Water Management & Use, you will lead and manage the Water Resource Assessment team to ensure ongoing effective delivery of water services across the Region. This includes resource and development assessment under the Water Act 2000 and Planning Act 2016, implementation of water plans and water management protocols, providing water management advice, while also contributing to the state-wide implementation of relevant programs. The team is located across Cairns, Mareeba, South Johnstone, Townsville, Ayr, Longreach, Mackay and Rockhampton centres.

Key Accountabilities
-Lead a team to deliver high-quality, outcomes-focused client services aligned with departmental strategic priorities.
-Resolve highly complex and high-risk state water dealings with cross-regulatory implications.
-Represent and advocate the department’s position at interdepartmental and stakeholder meetings.
-Provide operational and strategic advice, including reports, briefing notes and submissions.
-Conduct negotiations and develop relationships with major clients and stakeholders.
-Exercise delegated authority under legislation in accordance with sound decisionmaking principles.
-Manage budgets, business plans and workforce capability plans to achieve business outcomes.
-Identify and manage risk in operational service delivery.

About You
-Strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
-Ability to read and interpret legislation and make delegated decisions.
-Flexible, adaptable, and highly organised with strong prioritisation skills.
-Collaborative and professional approach.
-While there are no mandatory qualifications, a degree in water resource management, natural resource management or similar is highly regarded.
-Ability to travel within the region, including overnight stays.
