The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Environmental Management Division, Bureau of Drinking Water and Ground Water, Water Use Section, is currently recruiting to fill a Water Use Hydrogeologist vacancy that will be headquartered Madison, WI. The position allows for telework in accordance with the Departments telework policy and will be discussed in further detail during the interview stage. Telework availability is based on business needs and is subject to change.

Position Summary
This position is responsible for providing professional geologic, hydrogeologic, and data analysis expertise in carrying out the Water Use Section’s program responsibilities. The person in this position functions as part of a statewide team and is responsible for implementing the high capacity well portion of the state water quantity management program. This position provides hydrogeologic expertise and is responsible for technical analysis of high capacity well applications to assess for impacts, along with issuing high capacity well approvals as needed. This position is responsible for gathering, processing, and interpreting of large data sources to support the program’s groundwater quantity projects and disseminating that information to the Water Use Section and the public. This work involves the application of hydrogeological, water resources, well construction, technical program knowledge, and interpretation and application of state statutes, administrative codes and DNR policies and procedures. The person in this position deals on a routine and continuous basis with hydrogeological issues that require interpretation, judgement and have a major impact on department actions and future decisions.

Salary Information
Starting pay for this position is between $37.00 to $40.27 per hour (or $76,960 to $83,761 annually), in addition to excellent benefits. This position is included in the classification Hydrogeologist – Adv within Pay Schedule/Range 15-03.

This position is not represented by a collective bargaining unit. Pay on appointment will follow the provisions of the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan.
Job Details

Driver License Requirement: The selected candidate must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license throughout employment and meet the requirements of the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy. The candidate must be at least 18 years of age with 2 years driving experience. Candidates with three (3) or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two (2) years, or who have an OWI/DUE violation within the past year are not eligible to drive state vehicles.
Physical/ Environmental Factors: Physical requirements include talking in front of groups, sitting for long periods of time, lifting and carrying 5 to 30 lb. Environmental factors include working indoors in an office setting and independently traveling to offices around the state. Travel: Some travel is required, including occasional overnight stays.
Qualifications

Required qualifications include experience in ALL the following criteria: 
- Education, training, or experience related to hydrology, hydrogeology, geology, or water resource management.
 - Experience in assembling, analyzing, and interpreting hydrogeologic and hydrologic information, including groundwater and surface water interactions.
 - Experience using programming languages such as R, Python, or SQL to process, analyze and visualize data.
 
In addition, preferred qualifications include any of the following criteria:
- Experience interpreting Wisconsin or similar hydrostratigraphy
 - Experience in quantifying and assessing groundwater quantity impacts.
 - Experience tailoring scientific or regulatory information to your audience within a variety of communication formats.
