Designation offered: Research Analyst

Reporting to: Programme Lead 

Location: New Delhi

Purpose

The CEEW’s sustainable water programme informs policy-making for the sustainable development of water resources and their effective management through research in areas of circular economy in used water management and water bodies rejuvenation; capacity building for mainstreaming climate action in water; sustainable development through policy coherence in food, land, and water systems; and water accounting-based planning.

For its Sustainable Water programme, CEEW seeks to hire a research analyst (RA) with a strong understanding of climate extremes and risk assessment concepts in the water sector. The candidate should also possess a sound understanding of the policy landscape for sustainable water management, have a good grasp of the secondary datasets required for risk assessments, possess strong skills in data analysis and research writing, and support the organisation in expanding its network with government and non-government stakeholders in Indian states.

Job duties and accountabilities:

  • Conduct qualitative research, encompassing both primary and secondary sources.
  • Assist in the development of the research methodology.
  • Identify, download, and support in processing the right datasets for risk assessment.
  • Support in the preparation of research reports and presentations.
  • Support in publishing in leading peer-reviewed journals and generating other knowledge products for different audiences, such as blogs, policy briefs, op-eds, etc., at regular intervals.
  • Manage relationships with project counterparts from CEEW’s partners.

Project assistance

  • Assist senior researchers in the team in conceptualising new projects and developing high- impact research proposals.
  • Contribute to the development of cross-team research proposals and undertake such research studies.
  • Assist with project and programme implementation, including preparing presentations, factsheets, and other communication materials.
  • Assist effective outreach of research outputs through coordination with the outreach team and engagement with a broader network of stakeholders, and concerned policymakers.
  • Participate in relevant conferences, workshops, and training programmes for a comprehensive understanding of developments relevant to hydrology and climate risk assessments.
  • As required, assist senior team members in important meetings and sessions by preparing notes and conducting follow-ups.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings and assist with preparing minutes and chairing the weekly meetings.
  • Any other assistance that may be required.

Selection Criteria

Qualification and work experience:

  • Master’s degree in water resources or environmental studies, or disaster risk resilience, with a major focus on climate risks to the water sector.
  • A minimum of one year of experience working on risk assessments or datasets and policies needed for such assessments.

Key skills:

  • Excellent in data source identification, mining, and organisation.
  • Good awareness of the governance and policy landscape of the climate and water sector, so as to support interdisciplinary research.
  • Strong research skills to support quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
  • Good writing skills to support reports and other content writing
  • Ability to use the MS Office application suite.
  • Effective presentation skills are essential for delivering clear, concise, and adaptable verbal and written communication.
