An award-winning California law firm with a long-standing reputation for excellence is seeking an Associate Attorney to join its Environmental and Water Law practice. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a collaborative and growing team representing public agencies, agricultural interests, and tribal clients on complex advisory, transactional, and litigation matters.

About the Role:

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of experience handling environmental and/or water law issues for public and/or private clients. This position offers the chance to work on impactful projects across California involving water rights, environmental compliance, and public law governance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise clients on environmental and water law issues, including regulatory compliance and permitting.
  • Assist with discovery and pleadings in litigation and administrative proceedings (e.g., State Water Resources Control Board).
  • Conduct thorough legal research and draft memoranda, opinions, and motions.
  • Work closely with clients to provide practical, strategic guidance.
  • Manage case assignments and deadlines with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience representing public sector clients (cities, counties, or special districts).
  • Knowledge of the Brown Act, Public Records Act, and Conflicts of Interest laws.
  • Strong writing, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of matters and work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Self-starter with strong follow-through, sound judgment, and an entrepreneurial mindset.
