POSITION TITLE: Water Resource Manager (Consultant, up to 24 hours weekly hours weekly)

LOCATION: United States (virtual)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Global Water Challenge is a leading non-profit organization that advises numerous corporate partners on their water stewardship needs. The Water Resource Manager will work with GWC’s leadership team in support of our client’s water leadership objectives, including their efforts to return the amount of water they use in their production and/or and products back to nature and communities. Key activities for this role include validating water replenishment activities, conducting water risk assessments and developing partner mapping. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated data analysis experience in the water sector, a solid understanding of water-related and environmental issues and a passion for driving impactful solutions.

The Water Resource Manager role is a consulting position that offers highly competitive compensation reflective of experience and sector standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Water Replenishment Services

  • Validate replenishment: Provide water replenishment validation services at the regional teams and/or corporate levels during the client’s mid-and end-of-year reporting periods.
  • Monitor productivity: Conduct replenishment productivity monitoring by addressing evidence gaps and proposing solutions to support clients in achieving aggregate targets.
  • Quantify project water benefits: Coordinate and support project fact sheet development and quantification of volumetric water benefits (VWBs) adhering to the Volumetric Water Benefit Accounting Methodology 2.0 (VWBA 2.0) guidance. Use the VWBA 2.0 methodology to measure and report the volumetric water benefits of projects, such as the volume of water returned to a catchment, on a per-unit-of-time basis.
  • Develop strategy: Support the development and implementation of replenishment strategies for new and existing clients.
  • Identify and implement water stewardship activities: Work with sites to identify projects that can help meet water replenishment targets and improve local water resource management.
  • Data management: Gather and analyze data related to water stewardship activities, water risks and project performance to support calculations.
  • Develop and implement roadmaps: Create plans for implementing water stewardship activities and tracking progress toward defined goals.
  • Communicate and report: Prepare and present reports on the volumetric water benefits achieved, ensuring that claims are credible and transparent.
  • Provide technical guidance: Offer technical support and guidance to internal teams and external experts on water stewardship practices and VWBA 2.0 principles.

Water Risk Assessments and Partner Mapping

  • Evaluate Risk: Analyze water-related business risk data for corporate clients, identifying strategies for mitigating risks and opportunities to improve water efficiency or to return water to communities and nature.
  • Mapping: Create detailed partner mapping to identify high-impact partnerships to address detected water risks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will possess the following abilities:

  • Four-year degree in Data or Environmental Science, Water Resource Management, Computational, Applied Mathematics & Statistics or related fields, a master’s degree is a plus.
  •  3-5 years of relevant work experience in data analysis in the water sector.
  • Demonstrated experience with GIS software, water modeling tools and regulatory compliance systems, including Volumetric Water Benefit Accounting, required.
  • Strong data analysis and technical writing skills needed.
  • Knowledge of global hydrological conditions.
  • Excellent project management skills, including planning, budgeting and reporting and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, problem-solve and efficiently manage multiple tasks and priorities under tight time constraints in a highly organized manner.
  • Capable of working well both independently and collaboratively.
