Missions

As part of the European IBAIA project, the ISCR laboratories, which are leading the project, and the I. Foton laboratories at the University of Rennes and the CNRS, the postdoctoral researcher will contribute to the development of a miniaturised optical sensor based on infrared spectroscopy for the detection of trace amounts of pollutant molecules (BTEX) in aqueous environments (saline or fresh water). He/she will contribute to the implementation of the complete optical system and associated transduction measurements within the Foton institute.

Activities

– To implement a complete optical system, using an optical bench covering the mid-infrared wavelength range (3-12µm)
– To independently conduct experimental work on spectroscopic detection and associated transduction measurements.
– To assemble the source, transducer and detector.
– To implement an Arduino-based control system as part of the supervision of third-year undergraduate students.

Skills

The candidate must hold a PhD in optics/photonics.
– Strong skills in integrated photonics characterisation and transduction measurements.
– Ability to independently conduct experimental work on spectroscopic detection.
– Experimental skills in the mid-infrared wavelength range would also be highly appreciated.
– Ability to communicate scientific findings in English: writing articles, giving presentations.
– Teaching skills, experience in supervising (interns, doctoral students).
– Ability to work in a team, curiosity and scientific awareness, strong interest in the proposed project and field, good interpersonal skills.
– Rigorous approach to carrying out this ambitious scientific work.

Work Context

The miniaturised optical sensor based on infrared spectroscopy for the detection of trace amounts of pollutant molecules (BTEX) in aqueous environments (saline or fresh water) consists of a source, a transducer and a detector.
The transducer is manufactured from an integrated optical platform based on chalcogenide glasses that are transparent in the mid-infrared range. The source, transducer and detector assembly is built by butt-coupling these different components with its microfluidic part, in collaboration with the various partners involved in the European IBAIA project (Ifremer, Mirsense, Vigo Photonics, Argotech, ISCR and I. Foton).
The postdoctoral appointment will include research stays at the I. Foton institute in Lannion, of variable duration according to the project requirements.

The position is located in a sector under the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore requires, in accordance with the regulations, that your arrival is authorized by the competent authority of the MESR.
