Project Engineer – Integrated Water Management

2. Project Details

The project focuses on an integrated approach to water management for improving municipal water supply, sanitation, and reuse in small and medium towns across India, Nepal, and Bangladesh. It aims to strengthen water security and promote decentralised, nature-based, and circular solutions for sustainable urban development.

The project’s key components include:

  • Technical assessments and demonstration of integrated and decentralised infrastructure solutions.
  • Development of reuse and recharge strategies.
  • Institutional strengthening and capacity building.
  • Integration of gender inclusivity and climate resilience in WASH planning.
  • Regional collaboration and knowledge sharing.  

The project contributes to improving the living conditions of residents through the reduction of health and environmental risks associated with inadequate WASH service delivery while advancing global climate and equity goals.

3. Background

BORDA SA is seeking a dedicated and dynamic candidate for the position of Project Engineer – Integrated Water Management under its ongoing portfolio on Integrated Water Management (IWM).

This position is suited for an early-career professional (2-4 years experience) with strong technical and analytical skills and the ability to engage with local governments, partners, and communities. The role offers a unique opportunity to work across the project lifecycle from technical assessments and design to implementation, monitoring, and knowledge sharing, while contributing to regional collaborations and BMZ-funded initiatives.  This position will be on a one-year contractual basis, renewable annually.

4. Qualification and Requirements

The candidate must fulfill the following requirements for the position:

  • Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Water Resources, Civil Engineering, or related fields from a reputed university.
  • 2–4 years of relevant professional experience in the water and sanitation sector, with exposure to technical assessments, design, project management, and implementation.
  • Familiarity with urban water, wastewater, reuse, or recharge projects.
  • Experience in partner and donor coordination (preferably BMZ or similar) is desirable.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, GIS, or related design and analysis software.
  • Strong analytical and documentation skills; able to interpret technical and field data.
  • Excellent communication skills in English. Fluency in Kannada will be an advantage.
  • Ability to travel regularly to project sites across India and South Asia.

5. Responsibilities

The candidate will be part of the technical and project delivery team, responsible for ensuring timely and quality implementation of project activities. The position involves both technical and technomanagerial responsibilities and coordination with partners under the BMZ portfolio.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Conduct field surveys, technical assessments, and data collection for water, wastewater, and reuse projects in coordination with ULBs and partners.
  2. Support hydrological and reuse studies, including water balance assessments and recharge planning.
  3. Prepare technical designs, drawings, and specifications for decentralised and climatesensitive infrastructure solutions.
  4. Assist in planning and monitoring project activities in line with the Annual Plan of Operations (PoO).
  5. Coordinate with BMZ-funded partners, local governments, and implementation agencies to ensure smooth and timely delivery.
  6. Contribute to technical reports, DPR inputs, and SOPs, ensuring alignment with BORDA’s quality standards.
  7. Support documentation of project learnings, case studies, and knowledge products for internal and external dissemination.
  8. Assist in development of funding proposals and donor reports related to IWM and reuse projects.
  9. Contribute to BORDA’s innovation efforts on digital mapping, data systems, and circularity-based approaches.
  10. Undertake regular site visits for supervision, monitoring, and stakeholder coordination.

6. Location

This position will be based at BORDA South Asia’s regional office in Bangalore, with travel to project sites (up to 30–40% of the time).

7. Date of Joining

The selected candidate is expected to join from January 2026.

8. Expected CTC

The remuneration will be commensurate with market standards and will depend on the candidate’s qualifications, relevant experience, and last drawn salary.
