Description of WorkThe Hydrogeologist will provide technical and regulatory support on perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and emerging compounds initiatives, with particular emphasis on solid waste landfills. Responsibilities include environmental monitoring sampling and analytical strategies, evaluation and management of PFAS sampling data, hydrogeological assessment and remediation for PFAS and other contaminants in groundwater and soil, and guidance to staff on PFAS subject matters.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide technical assistance to Section staff, with emphasis on PFAS and emerging contaminants for assessment and/or remediation of groundwater and soil contamination at solid waste landfills and other solid waste facilities.
Evaluate and analyze PFAS monitoring data, including use of statistical evaluations, trends, databases, and GIS data tools.
Support the management of PFAS data in the Solid Waste Section’s EQUIS data management system.
Evaluate contaminated solid waste sites to determine the nature and extent of contamination, potential of imminent hazard, and remediation using hydrogeological decision making and interpretation principles.
Present and communicate technical and data analyses, with emphasis on PFAS and emerging contaminants, in a variety of settings and means, such as with the integration of ArcGIS tools.

The Division of Waste Management is responsible for protecting the public health and environment through assuring that solid and hazardous waste and underground storage tanks are managed properly, and existing contamination is cleaned up across the State of North Carolina. Minimum Education and Experience
