This position serves as a lead technical and strategic resource in riverine habitat restoration, flood risk reduction, and landscape-scale natural infrastructure efforts across the Tribe’s ancestral lands.
This position plays a critical role in integrating climate adaptation, large wood cycle restoration, channel morphology enhancements, and tribal cultural access into a comprehensive river corridor strategy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Lead implementation of the Upper Snoqualmie Resilient River Corridor Management Plan, overseeing restoration strategies from concept to construction.
- Develop and implement a Forest Stewardship Strategy for the Upper Snoqualmie River Corridor, integrating riparian forest restoration, native vegetation recruitment, long-term ecological monitoring, and a sustainable funding strategy.
- Plan, manage, and implement habitat restoration projects with a focus on Snoqualmie Tribe-owned lands, including engineered log jams, riparian reforestation, side-channel and floodplain reconnection, and barrier removal to restore natural processes.
- Coordinate interdisciplinary teams, including contractors, technical consultants, and Tribal staff, to achieve project objectives.
- Manage project scopes, budgets, schedules, and permitting processes to ensure timely and compliant implementation.
- Conduct and oversee site assessments, ecological inventories, and pre/post-restoration monitoring using geomorphic and habitat-based metrics.
- Analyze and align local, county, and regional planning documents (e.g. floodplain, climate, hazard mitigation) with Tribal priorities to inform restoration strategies.
- Serve as a Tribal representative in regional working groups and partnerships, including WRIA 7, Mountains to Sound Greenway, WA DNR, and local governments.
- Support development of stewardship plans for Tribal lands, including the integration of cultural practices, first foods, and riparian restoration on farm and forest properties.
- Develop technical reports, outreach materials, presentations, and Tribal Council briefings that communicate project goals, progress, and outcomes.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
- Contribute to grant writing, grant management, and funding acquisition strategies.
- Support coalition-building activities to expand landscape-scale restoration networks.
- Assist with program development across the GASP department on issues such as climate resilience, land protection, and environmental policy.
