Postdoctoral Research Fellows Open Call (2025)
The Institute for Water and Wastewater Technology within the Durban University of Technology seeks postdoctoral fellows in the following research focus areas:
Focus area 1: Environmental microbiology/biotechnology/engineering -1 position
Preferred: A background in microbial ecology and the function of engineered (wastewater) systems. An understanding of the biological wastewater treatment process is preferred.
Minimum Qualification: Ph.D. Environmental Microbiology/Biotechnology, Environmental engineering.
Focus area 2: Analytical Chemistry-1 position
Preferred: A background in Chemistry with experience in water quality and wastewater treatment.
Minimum Qualification: Ph.D. in Chemistry/ Environmental Biotechnology with knowledge of advanced analytical techniques
Focus area 3: Algae -1 position
Preferred: A background in algal technology with experience in proteins.
Qualification: Ph.D. in Biotechnology/Microbiology/Chemistry/Environmental Engineering with a strong knowledge of the treatment process,
REQUIREMENTS
1. Applicants should have a PhD that was obtained within the last five years.
2. The applicant should not have completed any previous postdoctoral fellowships.
3. Evidence of publishing at least 2 to 3 articles (and/or creative outputs) as part of their doctorate.
4. Provide proof of a well-defined research focus area and plan that they will implement over 2 years; (annual renewals will be performance-based)
5. Identify a relevant research focus area or field at the university with which their research focus area aligns.
6. Proven ability to write and publish papers in accredited peer-reviewed journals
7. Commit to 2 years at DUT when appointed into a position. Should the candidate terminate the contract before then, they will be liable for a payback of the fellowship awarded to them, as determined by the university
