Introduction
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Bureau of Waterways is recruiting to fill a Waterway Program Field Supervisor position to lead waterways, wetlands, dam safety, floodplain zoning and shoreland zoning responsibilities in the Northeast Region.
The Waterways Bureau administers state environmental and Clean Water Act related regulatory programs and is responsible for waterways and wetlands protection and management.
This is one of four positions statewide. Located in the Northeast Region and covering approximately 15 counties, this position could be headquartered out of Sturgeon Bay, Horicon, Antigo or another DNR office within the region depending on available office space and the location of the selected candidate. Remote work will be available, after the initial onboarding period.

Position Summary
This position is responsible for the regional leadership and management of the Waterway Program. The position ensures integration of the Waterway Program’s activities and policies with other programs and plays a key role in developing and implementing statewide policy by serving on the Waterways Leadership Team (WWLT).
Other responsibilities include the development and supervision of program staff and developing and supporting a range of effective internal and external partnerships. The position assists in setting statewide policy on program management issues and assures consistency and compliance with statewide policy in regional activities and operations. This position is expected to participate in regional supervisory meetings and promote cross program integration with other program supervisors and staff.

Salary Information
Starting salary for this position is between $93,690 – $101,920 annually ($45.00 – $49.00 per hour) in addition to excellent benefits.
This position is included in the classification Natural Resources Basin Supervisor within Pay Schedule/Range 81-02. This position is not represented by a collective bargaining unit. Pay on appointment will follow the provisions of the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan.

Job Details
Travel: Travel within the assigned area will be frequent, with periodic travel to staff office locations and to Central Office in Madison.
Career Executive: A two-year Career Executive trial period may be required.

Required qualifications include experience in the following:
- Leading a team of environmental science or regulatory professionals (e.g., training/coaching/mentoring others, providing constructive criticism, motivating others, etc.)
- Communicating complex environmental science information, both verbally and through written correspondence to diverse stakeholders such as internal & external partners, local government officials, environmental organizations, key businesses, individuals, etc.
- Administering and/or implementing environmental science policies, regulations, and/or guidance within state and/or federal regulatory frameworks.
In addition, best-qualified applicants will also have the following:
- Formal experience supervising environmental science or regulatory professionals (e.g. hiring, dismissing, disciplining employees, evaluating performance)
- Experience developing and administering policies, regulations and guidance regarding waterways, wetlands, shoreland zoning, dams or floodplains (e.g. drafting, analyzing, public participation, implementation)
