A trainee researcher contract for a European project into managed aquifer recharge via EURAXESS

Universitat de les Illes Balears

Palma, Spain 🇪🇸

Offer Description

We are seeking an early-stage researcher to undertake research tasks within the framework of the European NATALIE project. The project’s main objective is to implement managed aquifer recharge in the Addaia aquifer (Menorca) using reclaimed water from the Addaia wastewater treatment plant. The recharge will be based on nature-based solutions.

As well as research into the hydrological processes related to recharge and its impact on the wetland area of ‘Bassa des Prat’, the work will involve coordinating and interacting with local stakeholders and social partners on the island of Minorca, with a view to gathering information on the social acceptance of nature-based measures used to restore overexploited aquifers.

The tasks will include assisting, participating in and preparing materials for the weekly and fortnightly meetings of the different working groups within the European project. The successful candidate will also monitor the impact of the nature-based approach on groundwater recharge in Minorca through piezometric control and water quality assessments based on field data collection. The position will require travel to Minorca and attendance at face-to-face meetings with the international project team.
