About the role  

We are seeking a Recycled Water Specialist to join our Water Expertise team within the Science and Strategy group. In this role, you will support the management of recycled water schemes and coordinate the preparation, development and review of Recycled Water Management Plans. Your work will ensure the safe, compliant and effective supply and use of recycled water across SA Water’s operations.

You will collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders including regulators, operators, designers, and researchers to deliver technical expertise, drive continuous improvement, and support strategic initiatives in recycled water.

About you

You are a collaborative and safety-focused professional with a strong background in science, environmental management, or engineering. You bring a solid understanding of water quality, risk management, and stakeholder engagement, along with excellent communication skills and a proactive mindset. Whether you’re experienced in recycled water or keen to grow in this area, your ability to navigate complex systems and contribute to continuous improvement will make you a valued member of our team.

About Science and Strategy

The Science and Strategy group employs scientific approaches to address present and upcoming challenges. They execute a strategy driven by customer preferences to elevate the SA Water brand and position us for future success.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Coordinating the development, implementation, and ongoing review of recycled water management plans for both new and existing schemes
  • Conducting risk assessments and ensuring recycled water systems are effectively integrated with SA Water’s broader operational and compliance frameworks
  • Creating and maintaining standards, procedures, and systems to monitor compliance with approvals issued by the Department for Health and Wellbeing
  • Engaging with regulators and other stakeholders to manage approvals, respond to incidents, and lead strategic discussions
  • Supporting research initiatives and working with the Business Development team to provide technical input into recycled water opportunities

Your success in this role will come from: 

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams and contribute to shared goals
  • A strong commitment to safety, with the ability to identify and manage risks to protect people and the environment
  • Proven experience in stakeholder engagement, including the ability to build relationships and communicate technical concepts clearly
  • Sound knowledge of water quality, environmental management, and regulatory compliance
  • Ability to design, implement, and maintain systems and procedures that support continuous improvement and ensure operational integrity 
  • Tertiary Education in Science, Environmental Science, Engineering or related field
