Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to help deliver our regulatory responsibilities, placed on us as the Enforcement Authority for the Reservoirs Act 1975 in England. The Reservoirs Act helps to ensure the safe operation and management of dams.

As an officer in the Compliance and Monitoring team, part of the Reservoir Regulation team, you will be responsible for helping to deliver our operational role and regulatory duties for the 2140 reservoirs in England. This will include making risk designations and monitoring for compliance with the on-site flood plan requirements. Taking a risk-based approach, you will encourage compliance with the Reservoirs Act by clear and consistent communications with reservoir owners and panel engineers.

In addition, you will support the team’s advisor with responding to requests for information and providing licenses to share our data. You will also be responsible for managing the Compliance and Monitoring team’s SharePoint pages.

The team

You will join the Environmental Assessment and Reservoir Regulation department, which is part of the Flood & Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) Directorate. The Reservoir Regulation team is a nationally dispersed team comprising of 25+ highly motivated, experienced, skilled, and passionate people who are responsible for the regulation of the more than 2140 large raised reservoirs in England.  The team is dispersed across the country. Some travel and overnight stays will be required.

  • Experience of responding to information requests and being a SharePoint Site Owner is desirable

This a national role so you can be based at any Environment Agency office. Hybrid working is an option.

Interviews will take place remotely on Microsoft Teams week commencing 20 October 2025.
