The UTS World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Development is part of a global network driving projects that support WHO’s priorities at national, regional and international levels. Bringing together nurses, midwives, and health and policy researchers, the Centre takes a whole-system approach to strengthening education, skills, and training across the sector. Our work not only builds workforce capacity but also ensures it is underpinned by robust regulation and policy, creating sustainable improvements in health development.

About the role

We have an opportunity for a Research Associate or Postdoctoral Research Associate / Fellow to join a passionate, impact-driven research team at the forefront of public health, nutrition, climate resilience, and health systems strengthening.

Backed by an NHMRC Investigator Grant and DFAT Partnerships for a Healthier Region, this research-intensive position offers the chance to contribute to high-profile projects across Australia and the Pacific Islands.

You’ll play a key role in shaping and growing research programs in areas such as food and water security, the links between climate change, nutrition and health outcomes, and strengthening health workforce capacity. With flexibility to align projects to your expertise and interests, the role is designed to support your career development, foster collaboration, and prepare you for future fellowship opportunities.

About You

You are a strategic thinker and problem-solver with a passion for delivering high-quality, impactful research. Your proficiency in quantitative and/or qualitative methods is matched by excellent time management, organisational skills, and a keen eye for detail. Skilled in stakeholder engagement and relationship building, you thrive in dynamic, cross-cultural environments and are committed to producing research that makes a real difference. You are keen to build capacity of future researchers including supervising HDR students and managing collaborative teams.

This role requires domestic and international travel.

To be successful in this role you will need to meet the following key selection criteria for this role:

  • PhD in a relevant field (e.g. Nutrition and Dietetics, Nursing, Public Health, International Development) OR Master’s degree with significant research experience
  • Demonstrated experience in health research project development and coordination
  • Proven track record in publishing and grant writing
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities in Australia or the Pacific
  • Data analysis and interpretation skills

Remuneration/Salary

Base Salary Range: $94,152 – $114,672 (Level A) / $125,240 – $148,229 (Level B)

This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.

The position is full-time and will be made 24-month fixed term basis.
