Project in Chad – requires 1x Geochemist, and 2x Hydrogeologist

GWR is currently seeking three qualified professionals to support a project in Chad.

  1. Geochemist – with experience in water quality analysis and field sampling.
  2. Hydrogeologist (All-rounder) – with proven experience in pumping test and general hydrogeological fieldwork.
  3. Volunteer hydrogeologist to support the desk study

The selected individuals will be managed remotely by GWR Project Manager.

The Geochemist and the all rounder Hydrogeologist would be involved in a short-term deployment in Chad, scheduled from early November to December 2025.

Requirements:

  • Fluent in French and English
  • Available for field deployment in Chad from early November to December (deployment end date is 20th December 2025)
  • Previous experience in similar field missions is highly desirable

The mission:

  • The two selected personnel deployed will participate in a meaningful humanitarian project in Chad, Massakory for MSF. Please see the main tasks required hereunder:
  • Subtask 0 – Stakeholder Engagement & Data Collection
    • Meet with key stakeholders
    • Gather additional secondary information to support the desk study
    • The field team will draft a desk study report and populate a geospatial database of available information for the project area within 2 weeks of deployment.
  • Subtask 1 – Specification & Scope of Work (SOW)
  • Working with the remote GWR Project Manager and the MSF field team, the hydrogeologist and geochemist will support the design of technical services and equipment specifications:
    • Pump tests
    • Laboratory tests
    • Equipment procurement including multi-parameter water quality meter, dataloggers, barologgers, sampling bottles, coolers, dip meters
  • Subtask 2 – Water Point Mapping & Preliminary Testing
    • Conduct mapping and basic water quality testing of wells and boreholes
    • Identify key infrastructure for detailed testing
    • Collect:
      • Borehole data (GPS, depth, diameter, usage, photos)
      • Water quality parameters (pH, EC, TDS, temperature, resistivity, ORP, chlorine)
  • Subtask 3 – Detailed Testing & Analysis
    • Perform pump tests on up to 3 priority boreholes
    • Collect and analyse samples from up to 10 water points
    • Define lab testing scope based on mapping trends
    • Coordinate with MSF for cold chain shipment to UK if local labs are unavailable
    • The field team will provide borehole reports for each borehole that is selected for more detailed testing and analysis. They will also work with the GWR PM to draft a final report that will summarise field work undertaken, data collected, analysis undertaken and final recommendations. The PM will, in close collaboration with the field team, designate sections of the report for the hydrogeologist and geochemist to draft.

As for the Volunteer Hydrogeologist, the role would be to remotely support the desk study in the targeted region (Massakory). It will consist in supporting the GWR PM in compiling & analysing data, preparing figures, consolidating inputs from the field team etc.
