Missions

The postdoctoral fellow will apply the mathematical tools developed by the ANR TeMPlex project team to the study of simulated or observed hydrological dynamics, with the aim of identifying relevant topological invariants to characterize the underlying dynamics and guide the selection of suitable reduced models.

Activities

– Adapt and implement existing topological tools on data sets from hydrological modeling or observation
– Analyze the dynamics of the systems studied in the state space
– Compare the results with those from more classical methods
– Interpret the results in a hydrological framework, in collaboration with researchers in the field
– Contribute to the promotion of the results in the form of scientific publications and communications

SKILLS

The position requires a PhD in Earth Sciences, Applied Mathematics, or a related discipline, experience in topological analysis or data science, experience in scientific programming, and familiarity with environmental sciences. Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team and good autonomy are expected.

Work context

This position is part of the ANR TeMPlex project, which is developing a new topological approach for the analysis of complex dynamics from simulated or observed data. The study of hydrological data is one of the applied axes of the project. The postdoctoral fellow will be supervised by Anna Sorensson, Lluís Fita Borrell, and Denisse Sciamarella. The position is based at the Franco-Argentine Institute for Climate and Impact Studies (IFAECI, IRL 3351 CNRS–IRD–CONICET–UBA) in Buenos Aires. IFAECI is an international research unit dedicated to climate–environment interactions in South America, which brings together the expertise of several institutions in an interdisciplinary perspective.
