Job description

We are seeking Crime Analysts to join the EA’s National Environmental Crime Unit supporting the Water Industry Intelligence Team.

Water Industry offending is a high-profile Strategic Priority for the EA, attracting attention from the public, media, national and international stakeholders.

The main purpose of the Crime Analyst is to provide expertise through the development and use of analytical products to assist decision making at a strategic, tactical and operational level.

As a Crime Analyst, you’ll play a vital role in shaping intelligence-led compliance & enforcement. You’ll support investigations, produce threat assessments and deliver analytical products that influence decisions at all levels. From briefing investigators and regulatory officers to preparing court-ready evidence, your work will directly impact how we protect our environment.

You’ll collaborate across teams, advocate for intelligence-led approaches solving problems as you go and making decisions to achieve results. You will help build a joined-up strategy for regulation, compliance and enforcement utilising your data and information management skills. If you’re ready to apply your analytical skills to a high-profile, purpose-driven mission — this is your chance.

We are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies, including job share, so please clearly include any information regarding your preferred working arrangements on your application.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

The team

The Water Industry Intelligence Team supports EA in becoming intelligence-led, delivering high-quality National Intelligence Model products to inform strategic, tactical, and operational decisions. We bring together diverse expertise and work closely with stakeholders to build a unified response to water industry offending. Committed to professionalism and responsiveness, we continually refine our approach to ensure our outputs are impactful, relevant and aligned with the needs of our customers and the wider compliance & enforcement community.

Experience/skills required

Protecting the environment is at the core of our mission—and we’re looking for people who share our passion for tackling crime to safeguard communities. Experience of working in an intelligence or regulatory environment is essential for this role. Your mindset, transferable skills and ability to build strong relationships matter too.

You’ll handle sensitive information, use intelligence systems confidently, and produce high-quality products that informs decision-making. Strong communication, attention to detail and self-motivation are key.

You’ll work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, identifying intelligence gaps, assessing risk, and helping direct resources where they’re needed most. If you’re ready to make a meaningful impact, we want to hear from you.

Applications are “blind” assessed using your answers to the competency questions.

If a large number of applications are received, an initial sift using the lead capability may be conducted. Successful candidates will then proceed to a full sift.
