Job Summary

Posting at both levels, however primary goal is to hire a Hydro 3; pending the applicant qualifications will dictate the class level.

This position is located at Central Office in St. Paul and may have the flexibility to telework, work a hybrid schedule, or work in the office. The incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor. The incumbent will be expected to work in the office as determined by policy and discussion with their supervisor.

As a Hydrologist, you will provide the Department with hydrogeologic expertise regarding soil and groundwater contamination and provides technical support within the Contaminated Materials Management Team or other technical staff. This work enables projects to proceed without delays resulting from contamination, while ensuring protection of the environment, full compliance with regulatory requirements, and minimization of future environmental liability.

MnDOT does not sponsor applicants for visas or Optional Practical Exam for STEM Students. Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications Hydrologist 3:

Bachelor’s degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Geological Engineering, Earth Sciences, Environmental Geosciences or equivalent; 

AND 

Three years of recent professional experience in advanced environmental, geology, or hydrogeology work associated with managing contaminated property reviews and investigations (example:  Phase I ESA, Phase II, and construction oversight).

AND demonstrated experience in:

  • Experience with state regulatory requirements and guidelines associated with investigation for and management of contaminated soil, groundwater and/or soil vapors;
  • Experience preparing work products, reports, guidance documents, and/or standard operating procedures;
  • Experience creating and delivering content via facilitation of meetings, presentations, and/or trainings;
  • Experience evaluating and analyzing technical data sufficient to provide recommendations and/or implementation for next steps; 
  • Experience in project management involving regulatory guidance with stakeholders, 
  • Obtain 40-hour personal protection and safety training for working in areas that contain uncontrolled releases of chemicals (29CRF Part 1710, aka HAZWOPER) within 6 months of hire. 

Minimum Qualifications Hydrologist 2:

Bachelor’s degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Geological Engineering, Earth Sciences, Environmental Geosciences, or equivalent; 

AND 

Two years of recent professional experience in environmental, geology, or hydrogeology work associated with completing contaminated property reviews and investigations (example:  Phase I ESA, Phase II, and construction oversight).

AND demonstrated experience in:

  • Experience with state regulatory requirements and guidelines associated with investigation for and management of contaminated soil, groundwater and/or soil vapors;
  • Experience assisting preparation of work products, reports, guidance documents, and/or standard operating procedures ;
  • Experience in assisting or managing aspects of technical project delivery; 
  • Experience assisting or creating content for facilitation of meetings, presentations, and/or trainings ;
  • Experience analyzing technical data;
  • Obtain 40-hour personal protection and safety training for working in areas that contain uncontrolled releases of chemicals (29CRF Part 1710, aka HAZWOPER) within 6 months of hire. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Registered Professional Geoscientist in the State of Minnesota 
  • Computer skills in GIS software.
