TEAM/PROGRAMME: P & GLOCATION:  Lagos, Nigeria
GRADE:  5CONTRACT LENGTH: 6 months

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:  

Level 3: the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

ROLE PURPOSE: To support implementation of WASH component of a project, including hygiene promotion, distribution of WASH items, follow-up of community hygiene groups, and collaboration with WASH stakeholders at state/LGA levels.

SCOPE OF ROLE: 

This role will support, coordinate and mobilize community health volunteers and community engagements for P & G project, through collaborating and closely working with the WASH Coordinator, MEAL Coordinator, Programme Manager, Field Manager on the project.  S/he will ensure that there is an effective and coordinated implementation of the project in Lagos as well as produce regular reports for the project.

S/he will work closely with the Community Hygiene Volunteers to conduct regular hygiene promotion at the implementation sites. She will ensure the collation of monthly, quarterly reports that feeds into CO and donors report. S/he will work closely with CO ACCM Unit to develop relevant materials, such as but not limited to policy briefs/briefing messages, concept notes, guidelines and undertake actions to create enabling environment and promote increasing government and community commitment and action on children’s rights to safe water, sanitation and hygiene.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Objective 1: Take the lead on integration of hygiene promotion into Nutrition, Child Protection, Education, and FSL programming

  • Carry out regular hygiene promotion to SC WASH projects
  • Build the capacity of partners and SCI staffs on hygiene promotion
  • Ensure that community mobilisation approaches on the project fully integrate hygiene promotion concepts
  • Provide support on WASH to other SCI programmes and initiatives when required
  • Ensure that WASH is integrated into trainings carried out on relevant SC projects 
  • Carry out advocacy visits to key stakeholders at both states, LGA and community levels
  • Support periodic evaluation studies to evaluate the impact of the WASH support
  • Contribute technical expertise to donor proposals for any future projects
  • Work closely with warehouse team in ensuring hygiene items supplied by vendors are of good quality and standard

Objective 2: Assist WASH Officer in carrying out field visits when required

  • Preparation of weekly plans and schedule of work, while ensuring compliance in meeting and reaching deadlines and targets.
  • Work with and support the vendors to ensure all materials and equipment are in stock and any necessary orders are placed for all actions to be carried.
  • Work with WASH Officer for timely collection and analysis of data for the monitoring of the activities 

Objective 3: Monitoring and evaluation of WASH activities

  • Prepare a monthly plan of field activities and share with relevant staff
  • Develop and implement tools for monitoring of WASH activities (Hygiene promotion) in collaboration with the M&E team
  • Identify the problems in the implementation process and propose solutions
  •  Evaluate regularly the impact of the activities and propose changes for improvement
  •  Prepare activities’ reports and other ad hoc reports according to agreed timelines and as required

Safeguarding Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safe programming guidelines are followed to reduce the risk of unsafe practices, strengthen prevention measures and identify and mitigate risks in program implementation.

QUALIFICATIONS   

  • Degree/ Postgraduate certificate in Public Health, Development Economics, Education, Public Policy, Human Rights Law, Development Studies or any related field.
  • Desired Number of Years’ experience – 1 (At least one year in a WASH intervention)

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Level of IT Expertise Required – Excellent
  • Profound knowledge in Nigeria governance and education systems and WASH space
  • Experience in designing and implementing Social and Behaviour Change strategies, preferably in WASH, Education or child rights programming.
  • Strong understanding of community dynamics, cultural norms, and the role of behaviour change in improving educational outcomes.
  • Strong analytical framework to clearly articulate and communicate our policy positions.
  • Ability to be strategic and proactive when required to be able to keep advocacy plans dynamic and aligned to new policy and political developments.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and easily relate to state and local government authorities.
  • Able to demonstrate positive attitude, diplomatic, negotiator, and team player.
  • Experience of working in a multi-cultural environment and respect for diversity
