Offer Description

Project Title:Enhancing Management of Water Scarcity through Proactive and InnOvative WatER Accounting Approaches in Mediterranean Regions

Project Summary:

The EMPOWERMed project, funded by PRIMA, aims to assess the impact of climate change and human activities on water resources in the Mediterranean, particularly in Morocco and Jordan. The objective is to develop innovative water accounting tools and decision support systems (DSS) to improve integrated water resources management. The project is dedicated to making significant progress in addressing water scarcity in Mediterranean regions by implementing innovative water accounting approaches on both the supply and demand sides.

Main Mission:

To develop, calibrate, and validate hydrological models (SWAT, MODFLOW) for two watersheds in Morocco in order to assess the impacts of climate change and human activities, including inter-basin water transfers, on water resources. To contribute to the design of decision support systems (DSS) for integrated water management.

Task Description:

  1. Development and calibration of SWAT and MODFLOW models for surface and groundwater systems.
  2. Analysis of hydrological and climatic data.
  3. Application of the WA+ water accounting tool.
  4. Contribution to the development of decision support systems (DSS).
  5. Comparison of water management strategies between Morocco and Jordan.
  6. Writing of high-impact scientific publications.
  7. Collaboration with research teams in France, Morocco, and Jordan.

Description of the Event or Result Determining the End of the Contractual Relationship and Evaluation Methods:

The contractual relationship will end after one year (renewable based on performance), with the following expected results:

  1. Fully developed and operational hydrological models.
  2. Effective application of the WA+ tool.
  3. At least one scientific publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
  4. Contribution to the development of a DSS for integrated water management.
The evaluation will be based on the technical, scientific, and collaborative achievement of these objectives.
