The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Sciences (UMCES) invites
applications for the position of nonpoint source modeling analyst at the Chesapeake Bay Program (CBP) office in Annapolis in support of the CBP partership to inform state, regional, and local decision-making on the implementation of the most cost-effective, efficient, and targeted nutrient and sediment reduction actions.

The successful candidate will lead efforts to incorporate the best available scientific knowledge on nutrient and sediment transport into the Chesapeake Bay Program partnership’s Watershed Model. Activities will include statistical modeling, process modeling, research, data analysis, and other technical tasks in support of the CBP partnership. The successful candidate will work directly with technical and management work groups within the CBP to develop products that improve the technical aspects of CBP modeling and the communication of modeling results.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates should have a PhD and professional experience in environmental science, environmental engineering, or a related field. The successful candidate must possess demonstrated knowledge of of process based and/or physics models describing earth systems, experience applying Bayesian and other statistical met ods in prediction, estimation, and/or scenario applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred skills include time series analysis;
uncertainty quantification; the ability to manipulate, analyse, interpret, and display data for use by a broad audience; programming ability across multiple platforms and languages; ability to perform analysis on out-of-memory (gigabyte and terabyte scale) datasets; and experience with parallel computing. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required to generate effective synthesis products for the CBP partnership.
