Stratum is an AI startup founded by flood risk engineers and AI researchers with a goal to transform flood risk in the UK. We are at the forefront of translating artificial intelligence into real-world capabilities in the planning and engineering sector. We are doing two things:

  1. Working with lead local flood authorities to build tools that will dramatically improve their ability to review planning submissions.
  2. Building an AI platform that performs high-quality site specific Flood Risk Assessment for developers and planners.

Our mission is to help unblock the UK planning system and unleash economic growth, starting with flood risk.

What we are looking for

We are looking for a digitally minded and experienced Flood Risk Lead who wants to shape the future of their profession. You’ll be joining the ranks of a high growth technology startup in London. You’ll be inspired by the mission to transform flood risk assessment through innovative technology, delivering faster, safer solutions that enable sustainable development while protecting communities.

You’ll be working directly with the founders to help finetune the Stratum product, review flood risk outputs and provide ongoing consulting support to our clients.

You will be compensated with salary and equity. Early employees will be rewarded for their impact. We are based in London but can be flexible on location within the UK and offer flexible working arrangements.

Requirements

  • Chartered status with CIWEM, CEng (MICE) or equivalent
  • 6+ years flood risk assessment, drainage strategy and SuDS design in England
  • Experience using hydraulic modelling software e.g. Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, MicroDrainage, InfoDrainage
  • Familiarity with or interest in using AI tools
  • Flexibility to work concurrently across different projects and activities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and successful track record in managing client and stakeholder relationships
  • Strong understanding of flood risk and planning across project types and scales

Responsibilities

  • Review and approve FRAs
  • Be trained to operate our technology platform
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, and regulators
  • Advise on the development of our flood risk product offering
