Job Summary:

This position will serve as a key element of the implementation of a nearly $3 million dollar grant awarded to KCD and several key partners in the WRIA 7 watershed. The coordinator will support conservation program components focused on the Snohomish Basin Riparian Collaborative and the Snoqualmie Watershed that will implement new riparian buffer plantings and establish new program elements identified in the grant. The main responsibilities of this position will directly support seven funded partners and indirectly support numerous landowners, other partner organizations and the ecological health of the watershed. This position is the culmination of several partnership effects including the Snoqualmie Fish Farm Flood effort, the Snohomish-Stillaguamish Local Integrating Organization, and the Snoqualmie Watershed Forum- WRIA 7. The work plan for this position comes directly from the Climate Resilient Riparian grant application submitted in January 2025. The core elements include:

  • Coordinating the implementation of a comprehensive pilot maintenance program (30%).
  • Coordinating the Riparian Program Advisory Committee and Snohomish Basin wide Committee (25%).
  • Ensuring efficient communication among partners; including but not limited to administrative activities like processing grant reimbursements, ensuring timely reporting and metric tracking (25%).
  • Coordinating two Consultant contracts. The first to create a riparian coordination tool and the second to coordinate the implementation of a Community Based Social Marketing Campaign (20%).

Work is usually varied with complexity and involves routinely applying advanced principles and concepts in day-to-day work. Actions are typically short and mid-term and focused on what and how. Helps leadership to plan program goals and objectives. Work is also reliant on good communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities and job duties:

  • Work collaboratively with external partners to ensure successful implementation of the Climate Resilient Riparian grant that has twelve tasks and seven funded partners.
  • Manage all administrative activities (with support from KCD Finance Team) of the grant including maintaining grant activity records, receiving and confirming accuracy of grant invoice vouchers, submitting reports to the Department of Ecology (DOE), and managing all communication among partners.
  • Balance administrative responsibilities with creative thinking needed to accomplish the tasks identified in the grant, and keep the public informed of grant activities and successes.
  • Track timelines and send reminders to partners to ensure activities stay on schedule and align with the expectations outlined in the grant and the MOU with KCD.
  • Understand and be able to fill the role of ‘facilitator’ among partners as critical programs elements are discussed, confirmed, and implemented.
  • Facilitate contract-related communication by sharing deliverable requirements with partners, consultants/contractors, and confirming that expectations are clearly understood.
  • Understand the basics of restoration and help interpret restoration plan elements to landowners and others.
  • Attend site visits to ensure standards of grant and restoration activities meet KCD and grant requirements.
  • Assist with data collection by coordinating the gathering of baseline metrics, ongoing reporting, and site monitoring activities throughout the duration of the grant.

  • Less than 5 percent of job duties may be combined with other duties as required by the district.
  • Adept with all office equipment, including computers and printer/scanner/copiers, and able to effectively and responsibly use network servers, the Internet, and e-mail as a government employee.
  • Adept with all office and communication tools, including computers, network servers, Internet email, Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Teams, SharePoint, and other applications, such as Zoom and Smartsheets.
  • Grant management experience.
  • Working knowledge of ArcPro.
  • Ability to work a full-time schedule .
  • Willingness to learn, and problem solve (independently and in a group context)
  • Work weekend days and weekday evenings up to 2 times per month to support volunteer, education, outreach, and partner events.

Education and Experience:

  • 4-5 years’ experience and Certification and/or Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience working with partnerships in a facilitator role.
  • Knowledge of terrestrial/plant ecology, best management practices for upland and riparian natural resource management, salmon habitat protection and restoration, and critical area regulations.
  • General knowledge of related disciplines.
  • Considerable professional/technical experience and skills. Demonstrated ability to routinely advise others in areas of expertise.
  • Knowledge of current Pacific Northwest riparian restoration experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity/understanding of Quickbase, preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Position requires a combination of office and field work.
  • Some workdays may be required to be present in WRIA 7
  • Ability to work in different weather conditions and on variable terrain.
  • Ability to regularly drive throughout King County and occasionally the state using a district vehicle.
  • A valid driver’s license is required when driving district vehicles.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times.

Full-Time, Salary Position:

These positions will start at the hiring Grade of 26, Step 1, currently at $$77,922.65. After passing a successful 6-month probation, candidates will automatically move to step 2 within the salary band.

Work Schedule:

  • Full time, 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday
  • Hybrid work schedule requiring 2 days in person at our Renton Office, 3 days’ work from home
  • Some weekend and evening work is occasionally required
  • Flexible schedule depending on scheduled meetings
  • This position is currently term-limited until July 2029, with potential for extension
