Context
Joining the Bureau de Recherches Géologiques et Minières (BRGM) means joining the leading public institution in Earth sciences, bringing together 1,000 expert and passionate people, spread across 29 entities located in mainland France and overseas.
The BRGM’s activity aims to provide
geological knowledge and an understanding of phenomena related to the soil and subsoil, with one goal: to respond to the challenges of environmental change through innovative projects with societal implications.
The Water Directorate (DE)’s mission is to provide answers to societal needs in terms of water resource management and the environmental impacts of human activities on them.
You will join the Numerical Modeling of Aquifers (NAM) Unit to contribute to the modeling activity and the development and/or validation of the performance of the various hydrogeology and hydrology calculation codes used by providing innovative approaches with a view to optimizing and anticipating their quantitative and qualitative management at different scales (local, regional, national).
This involves providing support to public policies, developing research work and offering services to the industrial sector (national and international) for the optimization of integrated resource management (aquifer systems and associated water environments: watercourses, ZH, etc.).
Mission Description
As part of your missions, you will mainly be responsible for:
– Contributing to the integration of innovative approaches in hydrogeological modeling using artificial intelligence;
– Contributing to research projects on the management and quantitative and qualitative protection of groundwater resources, particularly in relation to surface water and global changes;
– Modeling underground flows in relation to surface water (water table-river exchange and urban network), the impacts of climate change (projection of climate scenarios);
– Contributing to the setting up of public or private research projects, support for public policies and international cooperation;
– Promoting the results in the form of technical reports and publications.

Experience: 1 – 5 years
You will mobilize the following technical skills:
– Knowledge and practice of hydrological and/or hydrogeological modeling;
– Knowledge and practice of AI concepts (machine learning, deep learning, PINNS) and/or development of digital twins;
– Experience in processing hydrometeorological data;
– Experience in programming and development of computer codes (Fortran 90, C++, Python, R);
– Interpersonal skills, taste for teamwork, strong motivation, organization and rigor in: the realization, delivery of work and compliance with contractual clauses;
– Initiative and creativity;
– Good communication skills, both oral and written, to present the scientific and technical results of projects (publications, articles, conference presentations);
– Fluency in English, written and oral.

You hold a doctorate.
This full-time position involves travel, primarily within France and possibly abroad.
Possibility of renewal at the end of the contract.
