Science | Service | Sustainability
Under direct supervision, the Groundwater Protection Geologist/Hydrologist I will perform entry level and higher-level hydrological site reviews and evaluations for land application and groundwater monitoring sites. 

Responsibilities:

  • Perform hydrogeological site evaluations and project feasibility, review of historical and background monitoring data for existing and proposed land application sites. Provide written review comments and recommendations as requested by Permit Engineers.  
  • Review and initiate groundwater monitoring plans, data, and specifications for wastewater facilities using policy and guidance. Request intra-agency input. Coordinate tasks in conjunction with enforcement and permitting personnel as appropriate. 
  • Maintain accurate status of assigned projects in the database. Internal liaison for database training for external and internal customers. Provide information to the public, industrial, domestic, and agricultural representatives and coordinate with appropriate DES personnel.
  • Other duties as requested by Bureau Chief, Assistant Bureau Chief, Division Director, and/or Manager.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in geology, hydrology, hydrogeology or geological engineering.

Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.Applicants indicating college credit or degree(s) on the application are encouraged to upload an unofficial copy of the transcript as an attachment to the application. Additional Requirements:

  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Must possess basic knowledge of geologic and hydrologic processes, principles and practices. 
  • Ability to develop project logistics to accomplish planned goals within an allotted period of time.
  • Ability to perform mathematical and hydrological computations.
  • Ability to review, manipulate, and manage large amounts of data.
  • Must possess good written and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework in geology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, and soil science.
  • Coursework or experience in geologic or soil investigations, database management skills, and familiarity with mapping software.
