The UNESCO Almaty Regional Office is implementing the GEF-UNDP-UNESCO project “Strengthening the resilience of Central Asian countries by enabling regional cooperation to assess glacio-nival systems to develop integrated methods for sustainable development and adaptation to climate change”. To ensure that all project activities are aligned with the UNDP Social and Environmental Standards (SES), the project will engage a Safeguards Expert.
The Safeguards Expert will provide strategic oversight, technical guidance, and capacity-building support for SES compliance throughout the project lifecycle. This includes conducting strategic environmental and social assessment approach for one (1) Regional Strategic Action Programme and five (5) National Action Plans (NAPs) for each of the participating countries (under Output 2.1.), targeted social and environmental risks screening of demonstration project proposals (under Output 4.1.), and advise the project staff and stakeholders on SES-related requirements for the implementation of the SAP, NAPs or demonstration projects (where needed). The expert will also support ongoing monitoring and evaluation to ensure continuous safeguards compliance across all project components.
Contract Duration: 20 weeks during 1 October 2025 – 30 September 2026
