JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title:           School Engagement & Catchment Partnership Officer

Purpose:             To deliver two main activities: Running LRT’s school engagement project, running the Living Lune catchment partnership.

Reports to:        Trust Manager

Location:            Hybrid. Working from home and from LRT’s office near Kirkby Lonsdale. Arrangements are flexible, with the general aim to be working from the office 2-3 days per week. Frequent site work will be required at locations across LRT’s operational area. Occasional meetings in the northwest region.

Hours:                 Full-time 37.5 hours per week. Flexible working hours.

Contract:            12-month fixed term contract (with potential to extend)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

School Engagement Project

  • Lead the delivery of the school engagement project.
  • Coordinate closely with the LRT staff member leading this project to ensure clear division of tasks.
  • Develop and deliver the ‘Eels in the Classroom’ component of the project.
  • Develop and deliver the teaching materials/ resources component of the project.
  • Lead engagement/ education walks with schools.
  • Establish and maintain trusted working relationships with schools participating in the project.
  • Coordinate closely with other LRT staff members to learn from and build on previous experiences of school engagement.
  • Contribute to developing new project ideas and identifying potential sources of funding.
  • Keep and provide information for evaluation and reporting.
  • Attend and contribute to update meetings with the funders supporting this project.

Living Lune Partnership

  • Organise and run quarterly meetings of the Living Lune Partnership (part of the Catchment Based Approach partnership network).
  • Establish, and maintain trusted working relationships with members of the partnership.
  • Liaise with other LRT staff members to keep up to date on LRT’s activities and to receive input into the partnership.
  • Establish and maintain a trusted working relationship with the Environment Agency’s Catchment Coordinator assigned to the Lune catchment.
  • Liaise closely with partnership hosts of neighbouring catchment partnerships. Explore and if appropriate develop joint meetings with neighbouring partnerships.
  • Liaise with the national CaBA team in order to keep up to date on latest developments.
  • Develop a refresh of the Living Lune Partnership and, in conjunction with the Trust Manager, a refresh of the Lune catchment management plan.
  • Identify opportunities for cooperation with other members of the catchment partnership, and for joint funding bids.
  • Represent LRT at other partnership meetings/ forums (e.g. Local Nature Partnerships).
  • Keep and provide information for evaluation and reporting.

General

  • Develop and maintain a network of contacts with stakeholders not formally involved in the catchment partnership.
  • Work with the Trust Manager to ensure project costs are in line with overall project budgets.
  • Work with the Trust Manager to develop future funding bids.
  • Complete all necessary reports and keep suitable records in line with the funding requirements.
  • Assist with other LRT projects as necessary.

PERSON DESCRIPTION

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate that they are exceptionally self-motivated and are passionate about improving the environment. They must be an excellent communicator and enthusiastic about continuing to develop their knowledge and skills.

Essential

  • Prior experience in engagement or running a partnership, or an academic background in one or both.
  • Excellent communicator.
  • Ability to foster partnership working.
  • Ability to understand the environmental sector.
  • Ability to work on the differing tasks identified in the Job Description at the same time.
  • Ability to work both on their own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Good interpersonal skills, both face-to-face and over the phone.
  • Valid driving licence and access to a car, insured for business use.
  • Strongly motivated to continue to learn and develop new skills.
  • Willing to pitch in and help out on other projects, as needed.
  • Excellent organisational /admin skills and attention to detail.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the environmental sector in general, and rivers in particular.
  • Experience of running partnerships.
  • Experience of successful project delivery, including producing reports.
  • Knowledge of the project area.
  • Lives in, or is relocating to, the Lune catchment.
