Job Summary | Project Overview Troublesome Creeks: An Atlas of Appalachia in the Anthropocene documents established and emerging relationships of communities with water and the landscape in Central Appalachia. Through a series of maps, photographs, essays, and data visualizations conceived as an Atlas, the project documents environmental and infrastructural features through the frame of water – specifically the Kentucky River Watershed. Illustrating the historical and contemporary landscape of adaptive uses, settlement patterns, and resilience strategies, the atlas serves as a visual index of these tangible elements as a way of promoting broader accessibility to underlying intangible elements while encouraging further design thinking at urban and architectural scales.Research Activities The student may undertake some of the following activities in support of developing the research into an exhibition and book prospectus in Spring 2026.• Review of academic and trade literature / compile annotated bibliography • Historical archive research in the region • Identification, mapping, and analysis of social and physical data • Visualization of research content • Photo documentation of landscape elements • Design and fabrication of Exhibition elements • Photo documentation of exhibition and elements |
