Contract type: Fixed term, Full time – 37.5 hours per week

Location: WaterAid Bangladesh Country Office, Dhaka, Bangladesh

About the role

WaterAid Bangladesh being a Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) focused international NGO understands that there is a strong interlinkage with health and WASH. WaterAid has supported and implemented various health and WASH focused projects and activities at the grassroots level starting with supporting improvements of WASH facilities at the community clinics, Upazilla Health Complexes to establishing a WASH Cell at Director General of Health Services (DGHS) and supporting IEDCR during Covid 19 pandemic. WaterAid Bangladesh has also piloted medical waste management at Phulchari UHC and provided Rainwater Harvesting infrastructure at coastal UHCs and CCs.

As we consolidated our activities towards Universal Access and Climate Change, our focus on overall ‘health aspect of WASH’ or ‘WASH aspect of health’ has lost focus which WaterAid understand needs strengthening and an increased focus as we have seen that various new projects have health outcomes as a result of WASH interventions. Furthermore, it is our understanding that WaterAid Bangladesh is contributing to the WaterAid’s global aim 2 “Prioritise WASH across the health sector to improve public health” through these various interventions, the direct linkages of which needs to be established. 

In this role, you will:

Programmatic Support

  • Support project teams (e.g., WS4H, WASH4UP) to integrate health components effectively.
  • Promote integration of WASH–AMR and Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) in project interventions.

Advocacy, Coordination & Networking

  • Build networks and alliances with health sector stakeholders.
  • Support policy advocacy with government and partners.

Capacity Building

  • Strengthen capacity of WASH actors on WASH–Health integration.
  • Facilitate trainings and workshops for partners and stakeholders.

The responsibilities outlined above may be subject to periodic review and revision in consultation with the line manager.

Requirements

To be successful, you will need:

Education: Must have MBBS Degree with master’s in public health degree from a reputed educational institution.

Experience: At least 07 years’ experience in the relevant field with reputed development organization. This may be relaxed for candidates having proven fast-track growth record and/or excellent career progression.

Skills and knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of national health systems, including community health services and the role of civil society organizations
  • Proven experience in programme design, monitoring, and evaluation, with a focus on sustainable impact at scale
  • Competence in financial management, particularly in budget development and oversight
  •  Effective stakeholder engagement and networking skills, with the ability to influence and represent at various levels
  • Experience working with local government bodies as well as regional and global stakeholders

  • Able to work under pressure, manage shifting priorities, and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrates leadership, problem-solving, and ability to inspire confidence
