JOB SUMMARY
The WASH Officer (Consultant) will lead and oversee the implementation of WASH activities in Khartoum, ensuring that water, sanitation, and hygiene interventions are delivered effectively, meet technical standards, and comply with donor and local regulatory requirements.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead daily planning and implementation of WASH activities at the two targeted CTUs and surrounding communities.
- Work closely with the procurement and logistics team to ensure timely delivery for all project items and activities.
- Supervise installation of water bladders, hand-washing stations, and mobile latrines.
- Oversee water trucking schedules, chlorination, and safe storage.
- Ensure quality distribution of hygiene kits and effective use by beneficiaries.
- Conduct on-site technical assessments and recommend WASH solutions adapted to context.
- Ensure adherence to Ministry of Health, Sphere, and donor WASH standards.
- Support community hygiene promotion and awareness-raising activities in coordination with Sadagat’s trained volunteers.
- Coordinate closely with Sadagat for volunteer management, logistics, and field access.
- Liaise with Ministry of Health and HAC for technical approvals.
- Submit weekly activity reports, including progress updates, beneficiary numbers, and challenges.
- Contribute to donor and internal reports as required.
- Monitor WASH activities for quality, safety, and compliance with donor requirements.
- Ensure data collection tools are used for monitoring distributions and hygiene promotion sessions.
- Identify gaps or risks and escalate to the Program Manager.
- Weekly implementation progress reports.
- Completion of water supply systems and sanitation facilities at the two CTUs.
- Verified distribution lists for hygiene kits.
- Hygiene promotion sessions conducted with Sadagat volunteers.
- End-of-contract technical report summarizing activities, outputs, and recommendations.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Environmental Engineering, Water and Sanitation, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in WASH project implementation, preferably in emergency contexts.
- Proven experience coordinating with local partners and government authorities.
- Knowledge of Sphere Standards, WASH cluster guidance, and cholera response best practices.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills in Arabic; working knowledge of English preferred.
- Ability to work under pressure and in challenging field environments.
