Water Footprinting Expert – Europe (Remote or Hybrid)

We are helping a leading sustainability consultancy to hire a Water Foot printing Expert. They are committed to helping businesses, governments, and NGOs reduce their environmental impact and transition toward sustainable resource use. As water scarcity and quality become central to environmental strategy, they are expanding their Water & Natural Resources team to meet the growing demand for water stewardship expertise.

As a Water Footprinting Expert you will be leading and delivering projects focused on quantifying, analyzing, and reducing water footprints across supply chains, operations, and products. You will work with clients across industries, agriculture, textiles, food & beverage, manufacturing to provide robust assessments, develop strategies for water risk mitigation, and support broader sustainability reporting frameworks (e.g., CDP Water, GRI, SBTi).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct water footprint assessments in line with ISO 14046, Water Footprint Network (WFN) standards, and LCA methodologies.
  • Develop and implement water stewardship strategies and risk assessments using tools like WRI Aqueduct, WWF Water Risk Filter, and GIS-based analysis.
  • Advise clients on water disclosure, compliance, and alignment with international frameworks (e.g., SDG 6, SBTN, TNFD).
  • Collaborate with internal sustainability teams and external stakeholders to integrate water impacts into life cycle assessments (LCAs) and environmental product declarations (EPDs).
  • Author technical reports, client presentations, and support public disclosures on water-related performance.

Requirements:

  • MSc or PhD in Environmental Science, Hydrology, Water Management, Sustainability, or related field.
  • 3–7 years of experience in water footprinting, environmental consulting, or corporate sustainability.
  • Proven expertise in ISO 14046, WFN methodology, and water risk tools.
  • Familiarity with corporate water reporting, ESG frameworks, and sector-specific water risks (agriculture, textiles, etc.).
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in software such as SimaPro, GaBi, OpenLCA, or ArcGIS.
  • Excellent communication skills in English; additional European languages are an asset.
  • Eligible to work in the EU or UK.
