Offer Description

A tender is open for the attribution of 1 Research Fellowship for Master within the scope of the project Governança da Água, with reference PR3262, funded by other private funds, under the following conditions:

  1. Scientific Area: Environmental engineering Sub-scientific Area: Ecological economics – water governance
  2. Work Plan: The candidate will play an active role in the scientific and monitoring activities of the project. Specifically, the candidate is expected to carry out the following functions:i)    Engage in field work, data collection and stakeholder engagement activities required according with the project’s scientific plan and treat the collected information with appropriate analytical techniques;ii)   Facilitate communication and coordination among the various project partners to ensure effective implementation of tasks;iii)  Organize and facilitate meetings with relevant institutions and support work meetings, monitoring committees, and scientific events;iv)  Prepare project management documentation, including the production of reports, presentations, and participation in conferences.
  3. Applicable legislation and regulations: Law No. 40/2004, of August 18, amended and republished by Decree-Law No. 202/2012 of August 27 (Statute of the Scientific Research Fellow) and amended by Decree-Law No. 233/2012 of October 29, by Law No. 12 /2013 of 29 January, by Decree-Law No. 89/2013, of 9 July and Decree-Law No. 123/2019, of 28 August; Regulation of Research Grants of NOVA.id.FCT – Association for Innovation and Development of FCT; Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. in force (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt);
  4. Workplace:The work will be carried out in the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering of the NOVA School of Science and Technology | FCT NOVA under the scientific supervision of Professor Rui Ferreira dos Santos. The contracting entity is NOVA.id.FCT – Association for Innovation and Development of FCT
  5. Fellowship duration:The fellowship will last for 3 months, starting in September. The fellowship is not renewable.
  6. Application deadline and form of application submission: The call is open from August 4th to August 18thDocumentation to be provided at the time of application
    i)     Currículo Vitae;
    ii)     Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering diploma/certificate;
    iii)    Proof of enrollment in a doctorate or a non-degree course. At the application stage, this document may be replaced by a declaration of honour attesting to the commitment to enroll in a doctorate or a non-degree course integrated into the educational program of a higher education institution, if selected for and accept the fellowship. Note 1: For academic degrees awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it is mandatory to submit proof of recognition of the academic degree and the conversion of the final grade to the Portuguese scale (process regulated by Decree-Law No. 341/2007 of October 12), or alternatively, proof of equivalence/recognition of academic degrees (process regulated by Decree-Law No. 283/83 of June 21).Note 2: In the case of candidates enrolled in a non-degree course, the scholarship may have a maximum duration of one year.Form of submission of applications: Applications should be submitted by sending an email rfs@fct.unl.pt, with “Concurso Bolsa de Investigação Mestre em Engenharia do Ambiente ” in the subject.Documentation to be provided upon contracting: Proof of academic degrees or their equivalence when awarded by foreign higher education institutions; Proof of enrollment in a doctorate or a non-degree course.

Mandatory requirements

Candidates must:

  • be enrolled in a doctorate or a non-academic degree programme in the field of environmental sciences and engineering or ecological economics
  • not exceed, with the conclusion of this fellowship contract, the maximum duration of one year, when the fellowship has been awarded to bachelors or masters who are enrolled in non-academic degree study programmes.
  • not exceed, with the conclusion of this fellowship contract, the maximum duration of four years, when the fellowship has been awarded to a student enrolled in a doctoral programme.
  • be informed that the fellowship aims to consolidate their scientific training through the development of research work.
  • present the documents proving this situation at the latest by the time the fellowship is contracted, before which time they may be replaced by a declaration of honour, which is attached.
  • have a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering.
  • demonstrate professional and/or academic experience in project management and in the preparation of technical and scientific studies in the environmental field.
  • show specialized knowledge in the field of ecosystem services, water governance and participatory processes at least 2 years’ experience in project implementation and/or research, within academia, public institutions or the private sector.
  • have good skills to develop teamwork and work independently.

Benefits

Monthly maintenance allowance amount: 

The amount of the fellowship corresponds to € 1 309,64 having as reference the table of values of the fellowship awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in Portugal, with an additional monthly allowance of € 690,36 under Article 2-B of the NOVA.id.FCT Scholarship Regulation. Payment is made monthly by bank transfer.

Selection process

Selection criteria:

The selection methods to be used and the respective weighting will be as follows:

1st phase

a. Curriculum evaluation – 50%; 

b. Experience in the research area – 50%. 

b1. Experience in the field of ecological economics – 35%

b2. Experience in the area of water governance – 15%

All applications will be evaluated on a scale of 0 to 20 points. 

Mark 1st phase=50%×A+50%×B

2nd phase

The three candidates with the best classification, higher than 15 points, will pass the selection interview phase and the selection methods will be as follows:

a. Curriculum evaluation – 50%; 

b. Experience in the research area – 20%. 

c. Interview – 30% 

Final Mark=50%×A+20%×B+30%xC

Candidates who do not obtain a minimum score of 15 points, as a result of the jury’s evaluation in accordance with the selection criteria, will not be hired.

Form of advertising/notification of results

The evaluation results proposed by the juri will be notified, up to 90 days after the deadline for the submission of applications, by email, of the results proposed by the jury, with access to the minutes and the final ranking list.

After notification, candidates will have 10 working days to comment on the draft decision (prior hearing of interested parties, under the terms of the Code of Administrative Procedure). The final decision will be taken after the expiry of the prior hearing period, again notified to all candidates by e-mail. Of this final decision the candidates can file a complaint within 15 working days (to the e-mail address used for the notification), or an hierarchical appeal, within 30 working days, addressed to NOVA.ID.FCT’s Board through the address coord1@novaidfct.pt.
