Job Description:
Salary Compensation: $48,600-$60,800 per year; DOE
The position will be working to support data collection and analysis on varied research activities related to AW4A, an interdisciplinary, social science led program working to design and advance solutions to ensure a future in which all Arizona households will have fair access to safe and sufficient water. The successful candidate will be part of a multi-institutional team working on community-based research and outreach with water-insecure communities across the state.
The ideal candidate has experience in the design and implementation of social science research as well as a good understanding of water issues across Arizona. The ideal candidate is a strong individual contributor and an effective team player who is organized and capable of meeting priority deadlines across several related projects. The ideal candidate must have strong written and verbal communication skills, work well in a flexible environment, and show initiative and creativity in the different stages of research design and implementation.
This is a temporary position with an anticipated duration of 12-months.
Essential Duties:
- Supporting the team in developing data collection protocols in collaboration with research partners and collaborators.
- Developing multi-methods tools, collecting, cleaning, and analyzing qualitative data, such as community-based participation-observation, interviews, surveys, and focus groups.
- Representing AW4A during on-site visits while performing data collection activities; may serve as the direct contact with participating agencies/organizations with whom data collection efforts would require assistance.
- Performing independent studies, internet, and library searches on relevant issues.
- Assisting with literature reviews, and identifying relevant prior research, instruments, or data sources as required for projects or activities.
- Preparing, producing, and presenting written reports that may include: the progress of the study, data summaries, documented findings, literature reviews, bibliographies, or other study-related updates and/or evaluations.
- Preparing tables and graphs for use in technical reports, academic journal articles, or public presentations to diverse audiences.
- May perform or assist in delivering presentations and writing articles and reports.
- Provide assistance and information to faculty, staff, and outside organizations regarding function/program.
Desired Qualifications:
- Must be located in the Phoenix area, Arizona, and have a valid driver’s license.
- Knowledge of academic research environment and principles, practices and techniques of research design, methodologies, and statistics.
- Ability to apply advanced knowledge of the principles, practices and methods of internet-based research.
- Experience conducting social science research, specifically designing research protocols for data collection, recruiting research participants, and collecting and analyzing data using qualitative and/or mix-methods methods.
- Skill in facilitating research partnerships and experience working with research partners and collaborators to inform research design and deliverables.
- Experience working with water-insecure households and/or communities
- Experience in Arizona, tribal, and western water policy issues.
- Skill in effective communication, both written and verbal and evidence of effective presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to be organized, self-directed, and able to manage multiple projects at once.
- Experience working effectively and respectfully in a team environment with demonstrated ability to create and sustain positive working relationships internal and external to the organization.
- Familiarity with project management and task-tracking tools.
- Skill in preparing and summarizing data for management reports and policy decisions.
Working Environment:
- Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
- Will require a flexible working schedule in order to accommodate projects and initiatives.
- May need to drive University vehicle and/or cart to campus site.
- Climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of being in a stationary position.
- Constantly detects and operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer.
- Ability to clearly communicate and exchange accurate information to perform essential duties. Expected to be responsive to customers, engaged in work production, resourceful, flexible, and respectful of others.
Department Statement:
The Arizona Water for All program works with Arizona’s most water-insecure households and communities to improve water security and engagement in water decision-making using community-based participatory approaches. To achieve water security, Arizona Water for All is working to promote empowerment and participation in community water decision-making, deploy proven water security solutions such as fit-to-purpose technologies and advance measurement and monitoring of household water insecurity.
Arizona Water for All unites community engagement with household water monitoring and building necessary water infrastructure in communities across the state. This program is providing opportunities for ASU social scientists to leverage location by doing use-inspired research and building community partnerships to transform society.
