MS/PhD Position in Remote Sensing, Stormwater, and Technology Commercialization via CUAHSI

Dr. Walter McDonald is seeking highly motivated Master’s or Ph.D. students to join his research group through a fully funded graduate research assistantship focused on the technical development and commercialization of remote sensing technologies for infrastructure inspection.

This interdisciplinary project aims to advance the use of drone and satellite remote sensing for the inspection and assessment of stormwater infrastructure. In addition to conducting fundamental research in remote sensing and civil infrastructure, the project includes a unique focus on technology commercialization, including tasks related to business model development and market exploration.

Ideal candidates will: (1) hold a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related technical field; (2) have a demonstrated interest in both engineering research and entrepreneurial innovation; (3) be eager to work at the intersection of technical development and business strategy; (4) have strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

This position offers a distinctive opportunity for students interested in combining engineering expertise with startup-oriented thinking, and may include collaboration with industry partners or participation in innovation-focused programs.
