Job Description:Environmental Field Work
– Gather, prepare, and maintain field equipment associated with water and sediment sampling, and the processing and preservation of collected samples
– Support other members of the research group in the field under extreme temperatures (heat)
– Operating non-powered watercraft (e.g., canoes, kayaks)
 
Environmental Lab Work
– After receiving appropriate training, prepare reagents and process samples for water chemistry analysis (inorganic nutrients)
– Conduct routine operations and maintenance of analytical equipment in the laboratory (AQ400 water chemistry autoanalyzer, Horiba Aqualog Spectrofluorometer, Turner Designs Trilogy Fluorometer)
– Maintain an inventory of laboratory consumables, and inform supervisor when supplies are running low
 
Data analysis and management. Potential tasks include:
– Data entry – Preliminary data analysis
– GIS analyses for map creation, watershed delineations, land use analyses
– Producing graphical visualizations of results
 
Scientific communication
– Develop and contribute to technical (e.g., peer-reviewed manuscripts) and non-technical (e.g., Extension fact sheets) documents describing results from the group
– Present results of research products at local, state, and/or national scientific conferences
– Provide feedback to other members of the research group on their dissemination products (manuscripts, presentations, etc)
 
Field and Laboratory Safety
– Ensure field and laboratory operations follow UF Health and Safety protocols
– Maintain all field and laboratory equipment to ensure proper operations
Expected Salary:$48,000
Required Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, hydrology, or environmental science. 
Ability to work in climate conditions of the Southeastern USA is required. A health assessment will be required as some aspects of this position will require heavy lifting (able to lift 50 lbs), frequently reaching above the shoulder, kneeling, repeated bending, pulling, or pushing.
Must have valid driver’s license. 
Preferred:-Experience conducting environmental water sampling for physical, chemical, and biological parameters.
-Familiarity and comfort with analytical laboratory equipment and electronic field equipment.
-General experience with aquatic ecosystems and climatic conditions in the southeastern USA
-Experience with data management, statistical analysis, coding (particularly in R), and developing manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals are all beneficial skills for this position
