If you are looking for an opportunity to establish your career as a scientist and you are dedicated to delivering state-of-the-art water treatment solutions, DTU Sustain is looking for motivated young researchers. As a Research Assistant, you will be working on several produced water and wastewater treatment solutions and contributing to water-reuse project towards a more sustainable future.

Responsibilities and qualifications
Your overall focus will be supporting research projects on laboratory- and pilot-scale working with advanced chemical and biochemical water treatment solutions. You will be working with nearby colleagues and collaborate with different departments at DTU, along with many industrial partners.

Your primary tasks will be:

  • Monitoring, maintaining and improving bioreactor performance.
  • Performing classical analytical measurements, such as colorimetric nutrient analysis, COD, BOD, TSS, nitrification inhibition test, biodegradation, and many other. 
  • Conduct water ozonation and other oxidation experiments.
  • Analyse water samples for microbiological parameters, including Legionella, E. coli, Enterococcus and HPC.
  • Analysis and performing Chemical risk assessment for organic micropollutants in water reuse
  • Applying MBR and MBBR technologies for industrial wastewater. 
  • Writing standard operating protocols and risk assessments. 
  • Review laboratory results, visualize and document them to internal and external partners.
  • On-site installation, maintenance and sampling of pilot-scale treatment systems.
  • Co-supervise BSc and MSc student projects.
  • Writing research papers and deliverables. 

About your knowledge and skills:

  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Drivers license B.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other standard software applications.
  • Good understanding of scientific principles in chemistry, microbiology and water physics.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English.

As a formal qualification, you must have a master’s degree in engineering or equivalent.

Salary and terms of employment 
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. 

The period of employment is 1 year starting fall 2025.
