SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS
Credit Valley Conservation is looking for a Technician that is pursuing water resources/sciences and has an interest in surface water quality to join the Real-time Water Quality team within the Watershed Knowledge Department. The Technician will support the maintenance of our network of real-time water quality monitoring stations and lead the collection of water quality and flow data at select sites.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- Completed Bachelor’s degree or College diploma in water resources, environmental sciences or related discipline
- At least one year’s experience with related tasks listed below
- Experience with different types of water quality and quantity monitoring equipment including flow measurements and water quality sampling
- Ability and willingness to work outdoors under all weather conditions
- Experience with large data Quality Assurance and Quality Control
- Good understanding of water quality, hydrology, and water resources at watershed and sub-watershed scales
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Experience in time-series data management platforms like Wiski is an asset
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Other key abilities include high attention to detail and organizational skills
- Works well in a team environment
- Must possess a valid class “G” Ontario Driver’s License in good standing
- Standard First Aid and CPR is an asset
SUMMARY OF MAJOR TASKS
- Assist with day-to-day operation and maintenance of real-time water quality monitoring network
- Assist in stream flow measurement
- Collect, prepare, and submit water quality samples to accredited labs following set procedures
- Calibrate and deploy water quality sondes according to standardized operating protocols
- Perform rigorous quality control on continuous water quality data
- Prepare data for input into technical reports and fact sheets for project stakeholders
- Support maintenance of an equipment inventory and asset management database
- Perform statistical analyses to summarize results and develop conclusions
- Present status updates at team and department meetings
- Other duties and tasks as appropriate to the position
