With significantly expanding operations and community partnerships, we are looking for a vibrant adventurous individual to fill the Education Coordinator role. You will further develop, implement, and grow our school water science programs in close collaboration with Indigenous communities in Ontario, Quebec, Labrador, and Manitoba. Our Indigenous School Water programs focus on empowering Indigenous students and creating a passion for water science through hands-on workshops, outdoor education, and project-based learnings. Project development and delivery collaborate with school and community partners to address specific community priorities. This position will support the development and expansion of our Indigenous School program team.

Wage: $45,000 – $70,000 (Some flexibility based on level of experience)

This role is a remote work-from-home position. Candidates must be available to travel during the week to the Creemore, Ontario office located at 10 Francis Street East, for critical meetings as required.

This is a temporary full-time position to cover a leave of absence. The expected duration is approximately 12 months , with the possibility of extension or early conclusion depending on operational needs and the return of the incumbent

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Assisting and supporting the Water First team in the digital and/or in-person delivery of water science education programs in Indigenous communities throughout Canada.
  • Assisting in the research and development of water science workshops that engage the community, involve hands-on learning resources, and are land-based.
  • Assistance with communications and coordination with various community partners and the organization of future programming.
  • Completion of in-office administrative duties as required.

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:

  • Must hold a Bachelor of Education and Ontario Teaching Federation teaching certificate.
  • At least two years of teaching or field-based experience in some or all the following areas:
    • Outdoor education
    • Classroom education
    • Science lab setting
  • You are adventurous, creative, have a can-do attitude, and you will approach this role with a passion for the environment and helping others.
  • Experience developing educational programs.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and time-management skills.
  • Excellent teamwork skills.
  • Experience working with children and youth.
  • Extensive knowledge of administrative and presentation software, including Zoom, Google Meet, Google Drive, Prezi, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook), and Google Slides.
  • A self-starter, problem-solver, extremely organized, analytical, flexible, and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work respectfully and collaboratively in a dynamic, multi-faceted team environment and work independently.
  • You have demonstrated the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, both orally and written.
  • Regular access to a vehicle & willingness to travel to northern Indigenous communities approximately 30% of the time (travel time will be seasonal – Summer and Fall).
  • A Class G driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Able to work effectively from home and on the road.
  • A willingness to continually expand your professional skill set, learn on the job, take on additional responsibilities as required and respond to and thrive in a dynamic work environment.
  • Candidates must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada under relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • A vulnerable sector security check is required as part of the hiring process.

The following are considered assets:

  • Experience related to Environmental Studies, Engineering, Geography, Indigenous Studies, or Science is a vital asset.
  • Experience working in collaboration with Indigenous community members.
  • Experience working in an outdoor setting in an educational capacity.
  • Experience working in developing or using educational science, technology, engineering, and mathematics-related hands-on tools.
  • You are artistic and have digital arts, digital printing and digital mapping skills.
  • Bilingual French/English.
  • Possess Indigenous language skills.
