Position Summary | The Center for Applied Earth Science and Engineering Research (CAESER) at the University of Memphis invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow position in civil engineering beginning as soon as possible in the broader area of emerging water resource management with special emphasis on hydrogeology, groundwater investigations in unconsolidated sediment (such as that of the Mississippi embayment), surface water hydrology and modeling, model coupling, and spatial/temporal data analysis. The successful candidate will work with Dr. Brian Waldron and CAESER faculty/staff on projects related to water resource sustainability. There will also be an opportunity to work with other faculty members from the Department of Earth Sciences. Salary is competitive and includes full benefits. The appointment period will be 12 months initially with the possibility of extension to the second year based on performance. Qualification and Experience: Candidates should have a Ph.D. (or have successfully defended their dissertation prior to the start date) with a background in water resources (not necessarily from Civil Engineering). A background in applied mathematics, field methodologies in unconsolidated sediments and/or numerical modeling is preferred. Candidates should have a publication record in hydrogeology and/or related fields. Knowledge of traditional groundwater/surface water instrumentation technologies and methodologies, and Geographic Information Systems software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS), Python, and Matlab is required. Knowledge of other programming languages (e.g., C, C++, R, Javascript) is preferred. Experience in custom coding, advanced statistical modeling, GIS will be preferred. Outstanding candidates with expertise in related areas will also be considered. Primary Responsibilities: The successful candidate(s) will be expected to carry out research under minimal supervision, contribute to the formulation and submission of research proposals and publications (quarterly and final reports, peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings) and mentor graduate and undergraduate research assistants and students.
