Concern Worldwide

South Sudan 🇸🇸

Concern Worldwide has been operational in South Sudan since 1985, making it one of the first humanitarian organisations with a consistent presence in the country, including during the civil war. Since South Sudan’s independence in 2011, Concern has maintained an active role in addressing the country’s ongoing humanitarian challenges through emergency relief, recovery, and long-term development programmes.

Concern’s interventions focus on serving the most vulnerable, hard-to-reach, and underserved populations. Our current sectoral work includes Health and Nutrition, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Food Security and Livelihoods, and Emergency Response. We operate in Northern Bahr El Ghazal, Western Bahr El Ghazal, and Unity States and are active members of national and state-level Health, Nutrition, and WASH clusters, working closely with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and other key stakeholders.

In Unity State, Concern is a leading WASH agency, providing access to clean water, improving sanitation services, and preventing the spread of waterborne diseases. Our work includes managing major water systems, operating Surface Water Treatment Systems (SWAT) in flood-displaced sites, and integrating hygiene promotion with health and nutrition services. Concern also holds a leadership role as WASH Cluster Coordinator in the state.
