About the job

The WASH Team Leader is responsible for leading and managing all Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) activities under DRC’s intervention. The role ensures the effective design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of high-quality WASH programs that meet the needs of vulnerable communities. It involves providing technical guidance, managing staff, ensuring program quality and compliance with donor requirements, and fostering collaboration with stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Planning & Development: Lead needs assessments, contribute to proposal development, align activities with strategic and donor goals, and ensure design standards.
  • Technical Leadership: Oversee all WASH components (water supply, sanitation, hygiene promotion, emergency WASH), review designs and BoQs, and apply international best practices.
  • Program Management:
    Guide annual planning and budgeting, manage procurement, track progress, and ensure donor compliance.

Team Management: Supervise WASH staff, mentor team members, conduct performance reviews, and build team capacity.

Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain partnerships with authorities, communities, and NGOs; represent DRC in forums; advocate for WASH access.

  • Monitoring & Evaluation: Develop M&E systems, assess data quality, analyze program data, and recommend adjustments.
  • Emergency Response: Lead emergency WASH interventions, coordinate with other responders, and ensure timely services.
  • Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP): Promote inclusive and accountable programming, ensuring gender and protection principles are upheld.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in WASH program management.
  • Proven team leadership and mentoring experience.
  • Technical expertise in WASH infrastructure and promotion.
  • Experience in emergency response and donor-funded programs.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and IT skills.
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Public Health, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in fragile contexts and proposal development.
  • Familiarity with GIS, AutoCAD, water modeling, and local languages.
  • Commitment to humanitarian principles and gender inclusion.
