Job description

  • Background of the recruitment and description of the projectThe mission of the Global Environmental Variations Unit is to conduct research and education in
    collaboration with other departments of the Graduate School of Environmental Studies in order to advance
    the Graduate School’s efforts to integrate the humanities and sciences. We are engaged in education and
    research to understand how the global environment has changed to date and to clarify how it will change in

  • Work content and job descriptionIn this personnel position, we are seeking individuals who will work in collaboration with other units in
    Hydrospheric-Atmospheric Sciences Divisions (Climate Science, Global Geochemistry, and Global Water
    Cycle) to conduct education and research that will clarify changes in the global environment through
    physical observation or chemical analysis in the field, while also promoting education and research with a
    view to collaboration with all departments in the Graduate School of Environmental Studies.
    We are also seeking individuals who are motivated to train the next generation of researchers and highly
    specialized professionals, and who will take a long-term perspective and actively engage in the graduate
    and undergraduate education, including the doctoral program.

  • Education and Degree RequirementsPh.D. / DoctorApplicants must satisfy all of the following requirements.
    1) PhD or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • Work experience2) Excellent research record in the global environmental variations or related fields, and promotion of
    interdisciplinary education and research in collaboration with other faculty members.
    3) Outstanding achievements in education and research using physical observation or chemical analysis in
    the field.
    4) Notable achievements in education and research that contributes to addressing global issues and creating
    new knowledge, corresponding to the mid- to long-term vision of the graduate school.
    5) Sufficient record and enthusiasm for international collaborative research.
    6) Sufficient experience in graduate and undergraduate educations (including experiments, field training,etc.).
    7) Ability to give lectures and to instruct undergraduate and graduate students in English and in Japanese.

The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences consists of the Earth and Planetary Science Division
(EPS) and Hydrospheric-Atmospheric Science Division (HAS). The present position is available in the
