Are you passionate about sustainable water management and community growth? The Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers (DLGWV) is seeking a dedicated Senior Water Officer (AO5) to lead a small, high-performing team in delivering critical water entitlement services. Based in the Water Entitlement Dealings South workgroup, you’ll play a pivotal role in managing water resources under the Water Act 2000 and Planning Act 2016, ensuring Queensland’s water resources are responsibly allocated and managed.

Key Duties and Accountabilities
• Supervise a high performing small team responsible for the delivery of services and administering water entitlement dealings within a regional office.
• Undertake investigations and make recommendations under the Water Act 2000 and the Planning Act 2016 in relation to water entitlements, riverine quarry material, riverine protection and watercourse determinations.
• Review the investigations of others and provide guidance on processes, procedures, and legislation to ensure decisions are defendable.
• Monitor condition and trend of surface and groundwater resources, implement water management strategies where necessary and manage access and water usage including management of flow events in watercourses.
• Engage clients in the resolution of complex procedural issues associated with competing demands for water and associated resources.
• Consult, liaise and provide information to user groups, the general public, staff and Government agencies on water resource management matters.
• Support water planning processes including the development and implementation of Water Plans, Water Management Protocols and Water Entitlement Notices.
• Other duties as directed and required.
