We are seeking a Director of Technical and Educational Programs to lead our Technical & Educational Programs department.
Position Objective:
Establish the technical strategy for AWWA and department. Plan, organize and direct the Association’s technical and research programs. Provide leadership for Technical and Education activities at AWWA. Manage multiple internal and external resources and stakeholders to develop, optimize, and produce educational content, publications, videos,policy statements, and related resources and programs. Oversee the technical development process for AWWA manuals. Serve as technical subject matter expert and industry counsel to AWWA members, volunteers, the general public, and staff. Prepare and submit annual business plan.Manage and develop current staff and cultivate new employees
Essential Job Functions
- Provide technical, managerial, and administrative leadership to the Technical and Educational Council, its divisions, and committees
- Develop and manage the Technical and Educational Council budgets
- Oversee technical development process for AWWA manuals and technical documents, supporting all delivery platforms
- Oversee Technical and Educational programs including, but not limited to, AWWA competitions and volunteer management
- Develop and execute professional and technical education programs that meet or exceed membership needs; provide technical expertise
- Analyze and implement program and/or process improvement initiatives for AWWA Annual Conference (ACE), specialty conferences, workshops, webcasts, and other education events in collaboration with staff, volunteer units and partner organizations, including, but not limited, to event modifications and/or discontinuation
- Oversee committee contributions to AWWA educational content development
- Provide expertise and information on initiatives, policies, and procedures to members, staff, and others
- Manage and oversee research projects, programs, and data collection surveys that provide relevant technical information and analysis for use by staff and for sale to customers
- Establish and implement strategy to develop and grow AWWA data programs
- Develop, implement, and maintain AWWA Resource Topic webpages related to technical topics and projects
- Monitor and oversee budget and projects to increase revenue and minimize expense
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned including but not limited to:
- Attend and/or lead team meetings, phone conferences, and training as needed
- Know, understand, model, and follow employee guidelines, employment policies, and department or company procedures
Management and Leadership Duties
- Support AWWA mission and vision in all interactions with staff
- Provide leadership to team of direct reports
- Help direct reports and possibly additional team members, overcome any organizational obstacles encountered
- Foster a positive work environment
- Demonstrate and model AWWA core competencies in accountability, coaching and mentoring, collaboration, communication, conflict resolution, decision making, emotional intelligence, cultural awareness and visionary leadership.
- Perform full management responsibilities for recruitment, hiring, retention, performance and professional development, coaching, mentoring, performance management, and termination of direct reports
- Establish and monitor metrics for all programs
Requirements
Education, Certification or Formal Training:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, water resources, water quality, environmental science or other technically related area required
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science or other technical field or a combination of additional education and experience strongly preferred
- Professional engineering license strongly preferred
Work Experience:
- Minimum of eight (8) years’ related water sector experience required demonstrating understanding of water industry technical, managerial, and financial issues including but not limited to:
- Demonstrated technical expertise in a combination of water (treatment/distribution), wastewater (collections/treatment), reuse, and/or stormwater utility operations preferred
- Demonstrated data collection, analysis, and reporting experience required
- Project management experience required
- Experience developing technical programs strongly preferred
- Experience working with volunteers and/or large committees preferred
- Minimum of five (5) years’ management experience or five years’ experience leading technical teams with demonstrated results requiredProficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required; basic proficiency with database management strongly preferred
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The pay range for this position is $136,000 to $170,000 per year depending on experience and is paired with a comprehensive benefits package that includes:
