About the Project

We are seeking a fully funded PhD student to join the PhD in Business Administration – Finance program at the John Molson School of Business, Concordia University. Students will conduct research under the supervision of Professor Erkan Yönder, contributing to a multidisciplinary project within the Volt-Age initiative:

Closing the Water-Energy-Food Loop: centers on the financial and governance aspects of integrating aquaponic greenhouses into buildings in urban and remote communities. The role is to emphasize the designing viable funding structures and risk-sharing models that support electrification and food security while enhancing resilience in Indigenous and underserved regions.

Students will also engage in the activities of the Jonathan Wener Centre for Real Estate.

The project offers excellent opportunities for publication, policy relevance, and real-world impact at the intersection of finance, infrastructure, and sustainability.

Role description:

As a PhD student, you will:

  • Pursue cutting-edge research in real estate finance, climate finance, and sustainable finance.
  • Contribute to top-tier publications in finance and real estate journals such as Real Estate Economics and the Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics.
  • Collaborate across disciplines, applying financial theory to sustainable infrastructure challenges.

Requirements:

  • A strong academic background in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Data Analytics, Industrial Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
  • Solid training in econometrics or statistics.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, R, or Stata.
  • A demonstrated interest in real estate finance, climate finance, and sustainable finance

Applicants who have completed coursework in a Master’s program and are currently writing their thesis are strongly encouraged to apply.
