Offer Description

[Background of the recruitment and description of the project]
* Background of the recruitment and description of the project
At ICHARM, through its core research project titled “Development of Hazard Assessment Technologies for Sediment, Driftwood, and Flood Inundation in Small and Medium Rivers,” we have been developing an integrated model capable of simulating sediment transport, riverbed and channel changes, driftwood behavior, and flood inundation phenomena. We have accumulated knowledge that enables us to reproduce recent sediment and flood events, particularly in small and medium-sized rivers.

In order to apply these research findings to the design and management of river channels both in Japan and abroad, it is essential to conduct further detailed field surveys and physical model experiments. Additionally, enhancing the accuracy and reliability of the analytical model through rigorous validation and refinement based on validation results is necessary. For this reason, we require experts specializing in the planning and analysis of sediment and hydraulic experiments using our in-house sediment and flood inundation experimental facilities, as well as field surveys in disaster-affected areas both domestically and internationally.

Moreover, at ICHARM, we are experiencing a shortage of instructors in the field of sediment and hydraulics for the Disaster Management Master’s Program, which is conducted in collaboration with GRIPS and JICA. Therefore, we are also in need of experts in this field to support student and trainee instruction.

Against this background, the specialized research fellow in question will, as part of the core research project, plan and implement experiments using the sediment and flood inundation experimental facilities, improve sediment transport, driftwood, and riverbed change models developed by ICHARM, and carry out case studies in various watersheds to assess the applicability of these models.
