Summary of Role & Key Responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced Associate Director with demonstrated nature and biodiversity subject matter expertise to provide technical oversight and strategic insights to Anthesis clients across a wide array of sectors. As a critical contributor to our Climate & Nature Business Line, this role will play a central role in aligning business objectives with planetary boundaries to strengthen the resilience of enterprises and ecosystems alike. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced nature and biodiversity professional who wants to drive impact and accelerate the transition to a nature positive and net zero future for all.

The role will involve collaborating with Anthesis colleagues across the globe to contribute to the growth and development of our Nature Solutions offerings and integrated Climate and Nature offerings: from assessing impacts and dependencies and identifying nature-related risks and opportunities to developing strategies to guide no regrets action to restore and regenerate ecosystems and implement biodiversity action plans. You will be expected to guide and deliver on nature-related client projects; actively engage in business development, and to support our global community of practice in developing materials and managing knowledge to maximize the quality and impact of our service offerings to transform our client’s relationship with nature and champion nature positive solutions for biodiversity, agricultural systems, forests, freshwater and oceans. Your projects and clients may span a diverse set of industries, ranging from Fortune 500 companies to boutique brands and start-ups. You ensure clients receive our best solutions, professional outputs, and technical advice by collaborating with an engaged, collaborative community that approaches its work with energy and optimism.

Key Responsibilities:
Providing Technical Expertise 

  • Provide technical expertise across Nature Solutions to project and client managers regarding questions related to soil health, biodiversity, water stewardship, climate x nature nexus, and other impacts as relevant. 
  • Partner with and help clients measure and integrate nature’s value into purchasing and investment decisions 
  • Maximize the quality and impact of our advice to transform our clients’ relationships with nature by contributing to the continuous improvement of our service offerings 
  • Ensure consistency and excellence in the Anthesis approach in the fields of nature and biodiversity stewardship, particularly in land-based systems of agriculture and forestry 
  • Shape the development of tailored solutions to transform our food & fiber system’s relationship with nature, developing novel solutions across the entire agri-food value chain 
  • Actively contribute to the evolution of Anthesis Group’s nature offerings by developing or improving tools and systems to provide increased value to clients and create greater efficiencies and scaling of service offerings to contribute towards Anthesis Group’s commercial and corporate nature goals, including integration of Nature and Climate as well as potential digital solutions 

Guiding & Delivering Client Projects

  • Guide and deliver nature assessments (including risks, footprinting, establishing baselines, and benchmarking) and contribute to strategy development and implementation (target-setting, roadmaps, action plans) as part of client projects 
  • Contribute to multiple client projects including significant engagements for key accounts, ensuring the quality in the delivery of your expertise in projects as well as providing technical & quality control in developing scopes of work and finalizing deliverables 
  • Guide and contribute to the delivery of nature and biodiversity client engagements through exceptional project management; skillful analysis of client documentation, identification of gaps and recommendations for improvement opportunities; expert synthesis of research findings into key themes and actionable insights 
  • Prepare and provide quality assurance for client deliverables, such as written reports, presentations, or spreadsheet models; and lead client meetings and workshops 
  • Deliver tasks on time and within budget and assist project managers to ensure that projects perform against targets and deadlines 

Developing & Strengthening Team Expertise 

  • Conduct market research and actively contribute thought leadership to position Anthesis Group at the cutting-edge of the Nature field 
  • Create knowledge material & templates and deliver related trainings to clients and colleagues 
  • Contribute to the upskilling and technical excellence of colleagues across Climate & Nature Business Line in Nature & Biodiversity, particularly when applied to working lands 

Contribute to Client Development 

  • Develop credible, trusted relationships with senior client project contacts 
  • Guide sales process on complex, significant opportunities at key accounts, scoping the work and technical approach to deliver 
  • Support the development of proposals demonstrating an understanding of the client’s business and offer tailored scopes of work to achieve their goals and priorities for nature and promote cross-selling of other Climate & Nature solutions.

Key Requirements & Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Keen grasp of the commercial and technical requirements of the position. 
  • Strong preference for prior experience in professional services and consulting fields. 
  • Demonstrated experience of partnering with leading companies and financial institutions to help us expand and strengthen our nature offerings. 
  • Bachelor’s degree, and ideally a Master’s degree, in agriculture and/or ecology related subject areas (e.g., agriculture, environmental science, ecology, nature resources, etc.) . 
  • Minimum of 10+ years of professional experience, with a focus on protecting and enhancing nature and biodiversity, particularly in land-based systems. 
  • Industry-relevant connections, with a network of potential clients, collaborators or other relevant stakeholders. 
  • Proven capacity for providing senior level subject matter expertise on land use and regenerative production methods. Areas of expertise could include but are not limited to: soil health, integrated pest management, water stewardship, biodiversity, working lands role in landscape restoration, agronomy, farm-level assessments, annual and perennial cropping systems, soil carbon accounting, carbon sequestration, biogenic carbon emissions, land use change, deforestation, watershed management, water impact assessment, and agroforestry. 
  • Possess strong working knowledge of most common guidelines, frameworks and for a for accelerating regenerative agriculture and sustainable food systems, including but not limited to: Regen10, OP2B, SAI Platform, Cool Farm Alliance, Field to Market, WBCSD, CANZA, SBTN, SBTi, VCI, AFI, GHGP, IPI, and more. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work at and navigate all levels of an organization, driving decisions and direction through influence, including senior executives. 
  • Ability to take an adaptive management approach to the dynamic, fast-moving sustainability environment.
  • Ability to work individually and collaboratively within teams on a global basis. 
  • Highly organized with strong program management skills, interpersonal skills, and a professional presence with the ability to quickly establish personal credibility and demonstrate expertise.
