Job Summary:
Living Lakes Canada is seeking a highly organized, skilled writer to support our Executive Director (ED) and Communications Team in a dual-capacity role. The role is weighted toward Government Relations, which can require a substantial time commitment depending on workflow demands. This remote, entry-to-mid-level position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to environmental protection and climate resilience efforts while developing a strong foundation in policy and nonprofit communications.
The successful candidate will assist the ED with drafting Government Relations letters, briefing notes and submissions, developing agendas, slide decks and speaking notes, assisting with scheduling, and ensuring follow-through on key priorities. They may also accompany the ED to virtual or in-person meetings for note-taking and administrative support.
Supporting the Communications Team, this role will produce engaging, audience-appropriate content and assist with other general team tasks such as digital content management. This includes website updates, helping with press releases, newsletters, social media posts, and copy for funder reports and grant proposals.
We’re looking for someone with excellent writing and editing skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently once briefed. An interest in environmental issues, climate change, and community resilience is important, as is the ability to tailor messages for government, funder, public, and donor audiences.
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Executive Director (Government Relations) & the Communication Team Lead (Communications), responsibilities include:
Government Relations
- Draft letters, memos, briefing notes, and talking points on behalf of the ED.
- Prepare and design presentation slide decks.
- Support the ED’s calendar and the scheduling of meetings and deadlines.
- Track follow-up actions and help keep the ED on task and on time.
- Assist with meeting preparation (e.g., background material, agendas).
- Take notes and summarize outcomes of government, board, or partner meetings.
- Maintain organized files related to correspondence, briefings, and ED communications.
Communications Team Support
- Assist in drafting and editing press releases, newsletter content, and social media posts.
- Draft or update webpage content for LLC programs and campaigns, including donation campaigns.
- Support content development for funder reports, impact stories, and grant applications.
- Provide other general support to the communications team as directed.

Qualifications:
- A post-secondary degree or diploma in communications, environmental studies, political science, public relations, or a related field.
- 1–3 years of professional experience in writing, admin support, or communications.
- Experience or demonstrable aptitude in supporting senior leadership or communications/public affairs teams.
- Familiarity with nonprofit, government, or environmental sectors is an asset.
- Experience writing for diverse audiences (e.g., government, funders, public).
- Knowledge of digital media platforms and content management systems (e.g., WordPress) is a plus.
- Reliable, self-motivated and independent with a demonstrated ability to collaborate well within a team.
- Demonstrated ability to support multiple projects, set priorities, meet deadlines and support others to do the same.
